Date: 2005-05-12 01:14 am (UTC)I have only seen an author do this once! You must be a very merciful author, to not subject your readers to weekly angst in waiting for the chapter to come out. Okay, well, I will stop acting like an idiot and go read it now. Yay!

Date: 2005-05-12 02:18 am (UTC)I saw the review! Thank you so much. I wonder if this is how JKR feels? The emotion's the same, the scale of impact is quite a bit smaller on my part.
Other than my betas (two of whom are inaccessable right now), you're the only one who's read it so far. You can be a community of one.
Actually, you are the first person to read it through in its present incarnation without the taint of earlier bad drafts. I wonder what that would be like?

Will so read it when I get home tonight. Actually, will first re-read A Thousand Beautiful Things.

Date: 2005-05-12 06:46 am (UTC)first, i have to say that i'm SO glad it wasn't actually dumbledore who killed voldemort. that was the only problem i had with ATBT. (you're probably asking, why didn't you say that back when you read ATBT? well, because for one thing it's hard for me to give negative comments, especially about a story i love that much. it makes me feel mean. and for another thing, none of us really knows what JKR has up her sleeve for that final battle, so i hate criticising people's ideas of it.) anyway, i always thought that the polyjuiced!dumbledore solution to the prophecy was too easy, a cop-out. and i still don't believe that the kill is going to be as easy as harry just casting the killing curse, but i think it's the best way for fanfic authors to go about it. i'd rather you not try to figure out what JKR's catch is. stick with the simple story, not a gimmick.
i also loved how you did harry and draco's row. they were such guys about it, completely misunderstanding and second-guessing each other, assuming they know what the deal is instead of trying to understand each other's feelings the ways girls often do. i think that is something a lot of authors, especially female ones, trip up--we forget how clueless guys can be, and we write it the way it would happen if they were girls.
another thing i admire about your writing is how you handle serious, dramatic situations. you don't try to run away from the heavy stuff, but you don't get bogged down in melodrama either. you add just enough lightness to keep things at a real-life level of drama while still taking the serious stuff seriously. for example, when hermione gets stuck in the chair in redmund's waiting room and snape has to pull her up before she can get her shoulders straightened out for the meeting.
and then there is the plain old funny stuff. i laughed to the point of tears during the fashion show, especially when i remembered that snape was in the audience. and then there was daniel calling god "jack" (out loud!). and draco's utter freak-out when he had to act like a muggle in front of daniel.

Date: 2005-05-12 07:05 am (UTC)I just read all of DSoT, and I can't even express how much I enjoyed it. I feel like...a lot of authors can do a good Draco characterisation, but not that many of them can do a really good Draco POV, and your Draco POV is just delicious to read! And don't worry at all about your OC's, because they're all great, especially Daniel and his bischon frises.
I really enjoyed how, even though this was an action story with a lot of plot to follow, it still paid attention to the little details that makes the HP fandom so intriguing in the first place, like Draco's wizarding accent, and the spell for muggle families to keep their lips zipped.
A lot of H/D fanfics are get together fics, and they don't handle the process of Harry and Draco actually being in a relationship with each other, so I was really pleased to see some of those dynamics. Most of all though, I'm really happy with the resolution of the whole thing. All of the loose ends were tied up in a way that made the ending very satisfying.
I don't know how much fanfic you plan to write after this beast of a contribution, but I'll be eagerly waiting to read anything you put up for us! Thank you again!

Date: 2005-05-16 03:18 am (UTC)And plot? Yeah, I adore crafting these long, drawn-out, plotty stories. It reminds me of hearing fairy tales when I was small. "And then what happens?"
I'm especially happy that you like my Draco. He's my favorite character. Fanon Draco, that is. I love what writers do with and to him. I like to make bad things happen to the poor boy, so that Harry can make it all better again.
Thanks for letting me know it worked for you.

Thank you for this fic
Date: 2005-05-12 03:47 pm (UTC)I thought Draco's angst was beautifully done, and I agree that it's great to see H and D having to work on a relationship.

Date: 2005-05-13 10:53 am (UTC)I already loved ATBT, but I think I loved the sequel even more. The plot is intriguing, the characters are well-drawn, and the writing is so very beautiful that I was frequently going back to reread a paragraph to savour it fully.
In ATBT, I cared most for the Harry/Draco relationship, but in the sequel, I loved the interaction of the other characters just as much - especially the way Hermione and Snape are slowly coming to an understanding (which eventually leads to Snape having to suffer through a fashion show ;) And though I usually don't care very much for OCs, I'm totally in love with Daniel now...
To sum it up, this was one of the best fics I've ever read and so worth the wait. Thank you for writing it!
(I hope this was somewhat coherent because I just got up after going to bed at 3:30 in the morning...;)

Date: 2005-05-12 09:28 pm (UTC)***spoilers below! in case anybody hasn't read yet.
ok, so i just KNEW that draco's "magical emissions" had to have some importance sometime! i did the biggest squee when i realized draco was getting ready to have a magical outburst at just the right time.
good job on the polyjuiced!carr bit. i was actually quite surprised, and then i was really happy that i was surprised, because that's always tons of fun. of course i figured out that carr was evil and would show his true colors eventually, but the actual mechanism of it caught me off guard.
i just have to give another huge SQUEE to daniel. he is possibly my favorite OC ever. his POV sections were laugh-out-loud hilarious...dean "praying in latin," the magical characters talking knowingly about what weapon sully might have used on herself...and this line!! that has pretty much always been my take on harry's unfortunate title. not that i don't also see the serious side to it, but really...*snerk*
completely wonderful fic, especially when combined with ATBT! i can't wait to read this over and over and over...

Date: 2005-05-16 03:03 am (UTC)I rewrote the ending three times - and not just little things, but major new stuff. The way Carr ended up was a surprise to me, too. That's not as odd as you would think.
Anyway, thanks for your kind comments. I appreciate them.

Date: 2005-05-13 01:05 pm (UTC)What a fabulous sequel! The things that struck me when I read it: the great characters, the smooth pacing of the story, Harry's kindness and gentleness, and Daniel--oh Daniel! I love Daniel. The OCs weren't bothersome in the least. Then afer I finished and thought about it some more I realized: the story took place in such a short space of time, Ron wasn't there (which gives me a good excuse to go back and read ATBT again!), and I liked Hermione in a fic for a change. And thank you so much for getting Harry to talk to Draco about everything before the end of the story. I so didn't want them to keep that discussion till the end. I also loved the way you "sandwiched" the action in between the two love scenes. It felt right.
It was an excellent read and one I will come back to again. Thanks so much for sharing and for posting it all so I didn't have to live with the cliff hangers.

Date: 2005-05-16 03:00 am (UTC)Ron. Poor Ron doesn't get much of a role in this world, because I've conveniently made him a new and busy dad. But mostly Dean gets to say the things that Ron normally would, so he'd be a bit redundant.
I find writing Hermione a little hard, but I really needed her. I think she needed me too, to make up for the disaster she caused last time. She and Snape made a surprisingly good team, I think.
I'm glad you liked it. Thanks for letting me know.

Date: 2005-05-16 02:55 am (UTC)I don't know if you read my LJ as I was writing this and described some of the process, but I write all over the place. Not in order at all. I think the Blade scene was the first finished. But I wrote it from Snape's POV, then completely rewrote it from Draco's when it became apparent that he'd be the better choice. And Daniel's big scene at the end - that pup was rewritten three times, first from Dean's POV, then Draco's and finally Daniel's. Daniel, I knew, ws the one who should reveal it all, and it works so much better.
I was happy to see you liked some things that are commonly hard for readers to get past. First, many folks like first-time getting together, which has already happened in ATBT. It's a little harder to hook people with an established relationship (even one with problems like this one). I'm glad you enjoyed them in this sequel. Also, I didn't realize how big a cliche that Draco-is-a-model could be, so I'm glad you didn't find it too trite. Thank
Thanks again!

Date: 2005-05-14 03:39 pm (UTC)I couldn't stop reading it once I started!
It was great!!! I loved the dark, secret past of both. I think at the end, it was redeeming for them both. I loved it. You just proved Draco isn't just a pretty face XD
You so poked my muse to draw some more! Ta! But then, I know there are some Boyd pix involved in those imageries *hee* Ah, but my current situation is tragic. Right now, I'm at my mum's place for a couple of weeks and don't have scanner or a mouce to go with her laptop and is very difficult to colour in Photoshop without one *whaaahh*
The waiting is excrutiatingly slooooow... And to think I have quite a handful drawings to share by now but can't.
