So I've written fic. Before you get all excited, please note it isn't Potter-fic (stop crying, ![[livejournal.com profile]](https://www.dreamwidth.org/img/external/lj-userinfo.gif)
painless_j). I don't know why I needed to write this, but I did. It's not as though there is a fandom for it. The source is the book by E.M. Forster, Maurice, also a 1987 Merchant/Ivory movie. More than any book/movie pair, I think it's best to take in both, because the book explores a lot of motivation and inner turmoil of the characters, while the movie makes it all tangible. Plus there's boykissing.
Maurice was written in 1913-14 but remained unpublished until the author's death in 1971 because of the subject matter: homosexuality. (Since canon is already gay, I can't call this story slash). Wikipedia has a plot summary, which is adequate but misses the subtleties and complexities of the original story. My story takes place post-canon.
