I was tagged to come up with a list of folks I wouldn't toss out of bed, such as Jude Law or Boyd Holbrook. This, you must admit, is a rather tenuous position for someone of my advancing age to lay claim to. I mean, to say that I'd be interested in purely physical things with, say, the actress Keira Knightley or the musician Loreena McKennitt, or even the little known actors Francisco Bosch (Bagoas) or Stefano Dionisi (Farinelli) might send you all into paroxisms of horror. You might allow me to indulge, however, in celebrities more my own age, such as Smokey Robinson, with those green eyes. But you may cringe when I mention the very young blues musician, Jonny Lang. Still, I doubt that you'd find it surprising to see other models or actors included in the list, such as Hugh Dancy or Jonathan Rhys-Meyer. Or even the athlete David Beckham. Still, if we want to think locally while acting globally, maybe we'd all put [livejournal.com profile] adamasoda on the list.

However, to make such a list would be odd, don't you think?

And not only is Jonny Lang cute, the boy can sing: Lie To Me (link active for 1 week).

Mmmm, that is one sexy post! Though I confess in the course of clicking links I sort of lost track of what you were talking about....

Age doesn't stop us appreciating beauty, both male and female, though does it? If I were to think of such a list most of the above mentioned people would be on it except Keira Knightley - too thin, but Rachel Weisz...now there is a beautiful woman.

I will always have a soft spot for David Beckham because he took the time to write back to my class a couple of years ago. We were looking at insulation, not a particularly fascinating subject for your average 8 year old, so I put the investigation in a semi real life context and told them that Versace wanted help designing new winter jackets for Posh and Becks.

He needed to know which material would be the best thing to line said jackets with and what, in their opinion, would make a well designed jacket. Once the investigation was completed and designs drawn I sent a selection of them to Manchester United, never expecting to hear anything back. Two weeks later David answered, sent autographs and even commented on what he liked about the designs. What a lovely bloke. Sorry for hijacking your journal with this little tale of a kind hearted celeb'.

Awww, what a sweet tale. Don't mind me commenting, I've always been a fan of Beckham, being there when he first debuted as a footballer and watching almost all of his career highlights. I've always thought he was a great guy, recent events haven't really changed my mind either. And yeah, age doesn't mean anything when you're appreciating someone.

I have to admit I used to think he was a bit of a pretentious prat although that was mainly to do with fashion shoots with Posh. Now I'm a Beckham Babe and jump to his defence and I even watch football when he's playing.

Hee, I've always been a fan, due to the whole being a Man U fan, but I must say I never thought he was that good looking when he first came on, what wowed me most was the way he played. The man can play, in spite of the jeers about his other activities.

The man can play

I agree wholeheartedly with that observation. A absolute pleasure to watch. Forgive me for being nosey but are you from Manchester? I was born and raised in Partington - when it was still quite a small and pleasant village.

Nope, born and bred in Singapore. But most, if not all, of asia is soccer-mad. Actually, to be honest, soccer is pretty much a universal game, except in America and Australia, I think. I was exposed to soccer in my early teens and started following Man U ever since.

It's growing here in America, because so many kids play it these days. My son does, for one.

That's a great thing actually. And yeah, I think I read/saw somewhere that USA's soccer team is quickly becoming one of the teams to watch now. Possibly one of the reasons why it was a rather minority sport before is because there're so many options for you guys, you got a ton of team sports. Soccer is more or less a poor man's sport, have ball, will play, so to speak.

Oh, it could be cheap, but we have to make it expensive. Most kids have to play in club teams, and the fees can get unbelievably expensive. Plus travel. Our league encompasses teams that are up to a 4 hour drive away. And out-of-town tournaments with motel stays.

LOL, yeah. I get that. My brother plays though, but not in a proper club, just informal leagues, I believe. And he often goes to a field near our house with friends just to have a game. I believe that's why it's so popular in the poorer countries like Brazil and Argentina, the kids don't have the fancy equipment and etc but they can still play.

Oh Jonny Lang is awesome, I wouldn't cringe when you mention him, at least you're not saying Aaron Carter, which I find rather wrong, or even Jesse McCartney. Jonny Lang has great talent and an awesome voice, besides, I think that looks is just a part of what makes a person attractive. As [Bad username or site: @ livejournal.com] said earlier, age doesn't really a huge part when you're appreciating someone's beauty.

Isn't he, though? You'd never know that he was only 15 when he recorded the track I've linked to. He grew up rather nicely, I think.

LOL, actually I did know. I bought his 'Lie to me' album when it first came out. It got a rave review in magazines though he was never officially promoted in my country, got it as an import I think. I have all of his cds except for the current one (which I haven't been able to find here), even the one he did as Kid Jonny Lang. And yeah, he's grown up awesomely.

I don't think it's strange. I was talking to B. about this other day (giving him a highly edited version of encountering dreamteen!Harry in an interview) and he said he met women like that, but it was a bit like reading a magazine or window-shopping, with no intention of buying. Aesthetic appreciation, in a fantasy dimension.

Having said that, one of my favourite lyrics evah is the shivery line in the song 'Jacqueline' by Franz Ferdinand, which is partly about a much older man fancying a very young woman, and the woman realising and being horrified:

"sometimes those eyes forget the face they're peering from".

Jonny Lang is lovely. You're tempting me to post, so I can go looking..

Jonny Lang is wondrously talented. The cut I have under the link to download was recorded when he was but 15 - and you'd never figure it out if you didn't know. He's from Fargo, North Dakota, so where did he learn to play guitar and sing and all? I suppose during those bitter, long winters there's not much else to do.

Fabulous list, with photos even!! I can't say that I argue with a single one of your selections. I don't think I've seen a picture of Jonny Lang before, so many, many thanks for that :)

And no, it's not odd to, um, admire the beauty of those younger than yourself. Technically I may be 38, but I've begun to realize that there are certain parts in the brain and heart that don't age at all :D

Francisco Bosch is completely breathtaking. Who is he? Also I really, reallyreally can feel the Boyd!Love.

I should do this meme. I have a laundry list, and they're not all over forty.

some of them are,though.

Francisco is a Spanish ballet dancer, who ended up playing Bagoas, the Persian eunuch, in Oliver Stone's Alexander.

More Bagoas eye candy (http://www.salogel.com/Alexander/captures/thumbs/kissingbagoasthumbs.html)

You should do this - you're already on your way! Neil Gaiman, yes. He's coming to a nearby bookstore in September, and I can't decide whether to stand in line to -- what? Get him to sign a piece of paper? Exchange 10 words with him? ("Hey, Neil, I read slash of your fics, yeah?")

Neil Gaiman, most definitely yes. I had the opportunity to exchange, oh, twenty words with him at Worldcon last year. I told him that I embarrassed myself by laughing out loud on a public bus while reading Good Omens. He said, "I like embarrassing people on busses".

I also got to hear him read the first chapter of the rough draft of Anansi Boys, and talk about writing and stuff like that. I'm actually writing a LOT more because of it, and I consider my trip to Worldcon one of those points in life where you come to a decision. I decided I actually can write, and want to, and someday when I publish my first novel, Neil will be high up on the list of people I dedicate it to.

Not to mention he looks really good in a tux and glasses. Oh, yes.

And...Francisco Bosch plays a eunuch? Well. I have GOT to see this movie.
