I visited the Democratic National Convention this afternoon, in lieu of er, going to work. But hey, it's a big deal! And it was a beautiful day for it. I chatted up some visiting delegates and generally made a day of it.

[livejournal.com profile] slytherincess has companion shots of Civic Center Park from last evening, here. Good thing, because the whole park was entirely closed off behind fencing today to prepare for The Taste of Colorado this weekend (yeah...)

The place you are watching on TV (the Pepsi Center) is restricted to delegates and badge-holders only and for blocks around, so I couldn't even get a shot of it. And security hollered at me when I attempted to take a picture of the ID process. Imagine it, though.

AHA. I totally meant to ask about this on that post from [livejournal.com profile] slytherincess yesterday, but forgot all about it until just now. Anyway, I was actually really surprised that neither one of you ran into this problem far more, especially considering it's the DNC. (I mean, last year when I had horrible jury duty in downtown NYC and wanted to take some pics for snarky photoblogging purposes*, I got grumped at and shooed away by a variety of highly suspicious cops - even after producing my jury duty notice and photo ID, unasked, and explaining that I was there for a legitimate reason.) From your description, though, it seems like they're actually being somewhat sensible about where they're prohibiting photos, and not just engaged in mindless security theatre.

*to clarify - I didn't want to take pics INSIDE the courthouse. I wanted some basic stock photos of the outside of the courthouse-y buildings. While they didn't treat me like a crazed frothing terror suspect, they definitely made me feel uncomfortable, unwelcome, and very nervous about the perceived "suitableness" of my answers. Meh.

Bwah-ha-ha! Homo sex is a threat to national security! Homo sex will kill your mother in her sleep! Homo sex is responsible for teen pregnancy!

...well, maybe not.

We just watched the night's lineup and we saw our local delegate in the front row!

Wait a second now. Who the hell planned to put Taste of Colorado in Civic Center two days after the DNC? That's just asking for trouble!
It's no wonder they had so many arguments about where rallies could be held this week.

I've been so jealous this week, hearing about all of the people who have not only made it Downtown, but a few who have actually been on the Convention floor. Hooray to you for making the most of the DNC while it's going on, and I hope it was better than work!

Yay for original-worded slogans! I knew there was this one major thing that was responsible for all the woes in teh world and now I know that it is, too!

It looks like a very impressive event :)

I was just there! We were visiting friends and spent a day downtown at the mall and every brewery we could get too. I was trying to find my child a Denver souvenir and only found convention stuff, so I bought some for my in-laws. I wanted to go to a bunch of places (Pepsi Center, Mint, USGS) but nobody would follow my Tour de Nerd. *rolleyes*

Great pics! The mascots on segways... LOL

How cool that you even got these pics. I've mainly watched MSNBC for the convention, so it's great to see a shot of the setup.

What great photos!! Thanks for sharing (am a total DNC geek and have been watching CSPAN obsessively all week). Love the McCain shirt. Didn't happen to see a MSNBC catfight, eh? :)
