So we're in the midst of a bathroom remodel and this came up while deciding how to angle the grab bar in our shower. I know I can count on you to point the way. Suffice it to say that I shower facing one direction and Mr. Geoviki faces the other. We were both surprised to learn there was actually an alternative to what we thought was normal.

Actually, I move around and around, soaping the side currently not being watered as that would cause instarinse.

Oh. Good thing my hair is so short then 'cos I like the water beating down on the back of my neck. But anyway it dries in half an hour.

Hmm. I answered without thinking about this, because I wash my hair every other day. When I don't wash my hair, I think I rotate, but several steps away from the actual water except for the body part under it. When I wash my hair, I face away.

I never stand under the shower facing it with the water streaming onto my face. I hate that. I always wash my face indirectly by splashing water onto it from the stream.

Both. Depending on which bit I'm soaping and which bit I'm rinsing and whether I'm not awake yet, and whether the gas temperature is set wrong so that I'm ducking and diving trying to avoid the actual water.

Ah, tis true, I go both ways in this matter as well. But I spend more time facing away, which is why I chose that.

i too face both ways depending on what i'm doing, but away won because i rinse my hair facing away as well as shave my legs facing away, and that's about 3/4 of the time. but i get cold if i don't cover all sides of myself with warm water during at least part of the shower. [*nods*]

My theory is that people with longer hair tend to face away from the showeer while washing their hair, because they can tilt their head back into the spray while rinsing it. If you face the shower you have to lean forward, and the wet hair and shampooey water run all over your face. People with short hair face the shower.

Statistically, this means that women face outwards, but I'm sure it isn't a protective stance just in case Tony Perkins appears...

Heee - I am an anomaly to your theory.

I have longish hair (half way down my back) and I face the shower head. Oddly I find it far easier to tip my head forward to rinse rather than back. I tend to fall over if I lean backwards *G*

The only time I face away is when I'm actively wetting my hair to wash it (I turn back around while I'm actually shampooing... only to turn around again to rinse it) or when I'm washing my back etc. I thought that was what everyone did!

I rotate the entire time, depending on which part of my body is coldest at any given moment. I shower very early, before the furnace has kicked in or when the A/C is highest. *g*

It depends on the shower. In square shower stalls I usually move the shower head (or turn it off) and soap myself facing it. At home it's in a bathtub with the shower head in one end, and I turn away from it to soap (hair goes the other way around). My boyfriend mainly does it sideways so he can rest his head on the wall to gain some balance (he's disabled). If the "grab bar" you're talking about is what he should be using instead, I'd probably think first about which hand I'd rather grab it with.

Oh, surely you jest.

1.Gather lingerie which requires washing.
2.Clean sink.
3.Fill sink with water and liquid laundry detergent.
4.Throw lingerie in sink. Agitate manually. Let soak a minute.
5.Turn on shower. Let sink drain.
6.When water sufficiently hot, ball up lingerie, throw in corner of shower.
7.Get in shower.
8.Face showerhead, letting hot water soak and warm body.
9.Turn around, letting water soak hair.
10.Face showerhead again, pick up shampoo. Lather hair while retreating to the back of tub a bit, not so far as to get cold but where water does not reach hair.
11.Move back to showerhead, turn away from showerhead so that hair rinses.
Repeat step 10 for conditioner. While conditioner does its work on hair, do cleaning-of-body thing, using plain water where appropriate and soap where appropriate. Shave pits.
Repeat step 11.
Repeat step 10 for deep conditioner product. While deep conditioner does its work on hair, use soaped-up loofah/exfoliating gloves on legs. Rinse out lingerie thoroughly in shower spray.
Repeat step 11.
Turn off shower, squeegee/sponge water off doors and walls, hang up lingerie to dry, dry off self with towel, tie patented Turbie Towel around head. Exit shower.

...This actually doesn't take all that long.

Gimmicky as they sound, they work perfectly. I wrap my wet hair up in it and it stays, unlike if you try that with a regular towel. And all the drippiness soaks out of it until I'm ready to give it a blowdry.

I face the shower head but since my shower is in the bath it's easy enough to take a step back so that I'm not inundated with water whilst soaping up *G*

Hm. I face the shower head, but I step back far enough not to be caught in the spray until I'm ready to rinse.

I am actually not in a stationary position for very long. Sometimes I face the shower head (when I am washing my face), sometimes I don't (when I am washing my hair), and sometimes I am sideways (when soaping or shaving my legs).

Clearly your shower is constructed improperly! In all showers I've ever been in the water hits my chest, not my face! Even my teeny-tiny approximately one-foot-square "how on earth do fat people shower in it?" dorm shower is that way!

seeeeeee how it's not hitting them in the face?

also that second picture involves one weakass stream of water -- how could he get clean in that? stupid stock photos.

also also, first model ftw, y/y?

I love obscure random things like this

We're currently remodeling our master-bath right now. Hubby and I were determining the length of the spout to put the stream where we want it. (we use a removable hand holder shower thingo w/long chord). What we realized is that he's 8 inches taller and that really makes a difference as to the location of the stream Ah such is marriage.

There was no "other"! But I only need an "other" because I have a truly weird shower. The faucets and showerhead are located on the side of my tub, not the end. So I am either directly under the showerhead, or facing it at a 90-degree angle. As some others have said, though, I do change positions depending on what I'm scrubbing versus rinsing. In a normal shower, though, I like to face the spray. What I really prefer is a hand-held. I'm hoping to get one of those eventually.

I am amazed. I thought the only people that faced away from the shower head were the people in shampoo ads. The only time I face away is when I rinse out my hair.
