Thanks for many things

I want to thank the folks who nominated my stories for various things going on at the moment. It's so flattering to be nominated - the rest is gravy as far as I'm concerned. Delicate Sound of Thunder was nominated for
hposcars (which I keep reading as "HPO Scars") for "Best Conventional Slash Pairing" and also "Best FanFiction of 2005". There are lots of categories in this one, and it's fun to see the variety. I'm still pondering my choices to add by Sunday's deadline. Also, for another round of The Multifaceted Awards, A Thousand Beautiful Things was nominated for Best Original Character - I'm guessing for Sully?
Since the HP Oscars are limited to fics of 2005, it made me curious about what I'd written last year. Not a very lengthy list, I'm afraid:
Delicate Sound of Thunder - the surprise sequel to A Thousand Beautiful Things. At least, it was a surprise to me that I even wrote one. This puppy took up nearly all my writing time from September 2004 until May 2005.
Never Mind the Bollocks, It's Draco/Harry (Shake Your Groove Thing). Which is possibly the strangest imaginable follow-up to DSOT, which I'd just finished before writing this insanity.
The Law of Falling and Catching Up. I scrambled to finish this for the deadline of the first wave of
the_eros_affair.
Practicing the Same Religion. Geoviki does mpreg! For
merry_smutmas and
coffeejunkii.
Okay, so I managed to come up with all H/D this year. And I think I've demonstrated that I'm not particularly prolific. It's this damn day job.
Totally unrelated - I took your advice, dear friends, and ordered a mojito on Sat. night. I loved it! But could someone tell me how to surreptitiously get the bits of mint leaves out of one's teeth while drinking it?

Date: 2006-02-09 09:07 pm (UTC)Excellent news, and congratulations! I couldn't suppress a chuckle at H/D being the conventional pairing, though. What a strange world we inhabit, LOL.
Are you otherwise okay?

Date: 2006-02-09 09:37 pm (UTC)Hey, I have a song I want you to hear that reminds me of...well, you, of course, but in a way that the imagery reminds me of your writing. It's called "Raven in the Storm" sung by John Gorka. Can you upload a song I stick out somewhere for you?
You dancing fool.

Date: 2006-02-09 10:28 pm (UTC)I would have thought that Daniel was your best original character..
Well done! Will hope you get to give the tearful acceptance speech which embarrasses everyone.

Date: 2006-02-09 11:01 pm (UTC)Just chiming in to say that I, too, agree with the sentiment that Daniel would be the best of your original characters. He has a depth to him, for lack of a better word.

Date: 2006-02-09 11:23 pm (UTC)Yep. He's great, in both stories, so much that I wish to see him again.

Date: 2006-02-09 10:55 pm (UTC)I mean, geez, I don't like mpreg, but I ate yours up with a virtual spoon even before I knew it was you. Great work, lovey, well-deserved.
And don't get me started on The Waters of March It's the best fic people aren't reading (because they're reading something else of yours, most likely--I think DsOT is read by more people because it's longer, and I do love it, but OMG, I can't count how many times I've read TWoM. Just because. *g*) See, I told you not to get me started.
Re: Pardon me whilst I fangirl
Date: 2006-02-12 01:08 am (UTC)Thank you, though. I do appreciate it.

Date: 2006-02-10 12:59 am (UTC)As for mojitos, I love them, too... Usually, people munch on the mint leaves after the drink is gone. And I read somewhere on the internet that while one's breath is minty sweet and fresh, the bits of green lodged in one's teeth might be annoying...or embarassing...but well worth it!

Date: 2006-02-12 01:10 am (UTC)I can't imagine chewing the leaves - I'd look like an untidy cow by the end. I was delicately trying to pick out the leaves that clogged the straw. I'd drink it again, though, because those suckers are good!

Date: 2006-02-12 02:09 am (UTC)My daughter is appalled at my lack of Spanish accent. She's studying to be a bilingual teacher - Spanish is her other language. But hey - I took French in high school. Even if I live in Colorado, I'm excused.

Date: 2006-02-10 05:31 pm (UTC)BTW, I got my ticket to Lumos today (have had the hotel reservation since November), so I'll definitely be seeing you in July! :D :D
no subject
Date: 2006-02-12 01:20 am (UTC)Great news to know you'll be at Lumos, too. Maybe this time, the pictures I take of you will do you justice. I got a few during the ball, when you were doing your sylph-like dances, which caused me to watch silently with envy! But they don't adequately capture my memories of you that night. I could see why LOTR is a fandom close to your heart. You were utterly elfin.
I feel like my few meager replies to you recently don't do much justice either to the many thoughts and good wishes I have for you. I apologize for that. Know that I am thinking lots of good things in your direction, and I read every one of your LJ entries with interest.

Date: 2006-02-13 07:02 pm (UTC) You are so kind! It's funny, though, because aside from the Orcs and the like, I feel Elvish least of all races. I see myself as a kind of Rohirric/Dwarvish mix, lol.

Thank you so much; I'm not as good at commenting in people's LJs as I'd like, either. I'm definitely looking forward to more quality time with you in the future. I'll try not to be so solitary next time!
*waves faintly*
Date: 2006-04-07 04:16 am (UTC)But I have to say that I'm disappointed that 'Never Mind The Bollocks...' isn't nominated for anything that I can see. ;D It's possibly the funniest fiction I've ever read! Hmmm... maybe there can be another round...
Re: *waves faintly*
Date: 2006-04-08 12:13 am (UTC)ATBT didn't make it too far in the process, it seems. And "Never Mind the Bollocks" was never nominated anywhere. No matter; just knowing readers like it is enough for me.
