geoviki: (Boyd - androgyny)

I made a boatload of new icons today. Prepare to be spammed with Keith Haring and Roy Lichtenstein. (And this one of Boyd.) Did I ever tell you that one of my early jobs was as an art history librarian? True (damn, now I can't use that tidbit for my next meme).

I discovered what I believe is the full text of Annie Proulx's short story Brokeback Mountain online, Brokeback Mountain. Do I have to warn you? 'K. SPOILER! SPOILER! Run away! I decided that even though this is the first gay cowboy movie that I know of, I have to know the ending so I can prepare for any potential angst.

And the answer is yes, there's major angst. Of course we can't have two men in love in America without a major sad ending, because that's what Teh Gay is for us, right? Tragedy in a neat little package. Oh, well, I'll see it anyway and cry buckets. Good thing I don't wear mascara.

And if you had any doubts:

Rock Star

You scored 100%!

You damn rock star. You know all the basics, and if you got any wrong, I bet it was that stupid Traveling Wilburys question. (nope - got it right!)
Your friends are probably intimidated by your knowledge of classic rock and envy your impressive collection. When a classic rock song comes on the radio, you can probably identify it before the vocals kick in most of the time. You probably get good scores on the "maiden name of Clapton's mom" tests, too.

I was (am) excited about seeing Brokeback Mountain, but damn if the trailer didn't give the whole plot away, including the ending. *shakes fist*

What I got from the trailer was what I would have predicted about a story about two men in love: major angsty pressure from the outside world. I was hoping the rest of the story wasn't so predictible.

I think that's why I like such off-the-wall plots in my movies (such as Sideways or Being John Malkovich) - I get tired of being able to see plots telegraphed at me from miles away.

Oh, totally. It's actually what drives me mad about arthouse cinema. Totally predictable, totally gloomy.

In fact I need a cross 'I saw that coming! icon now.

Oh yeah dude, I cried like a bitch when I read this. However I am totally looking forward to the movie adn I don't know whether it will make me cry more cause it's a movie or less cause I knew what was coming. If it's really good I assume more.

It'll be more for me, because I wholly immerse myself in movies when I see them. With books I can step back a bit.

I seem to immerse my self in the written word much more easily, and if there's crying to be had I'll be at it. Maybe it's because with movies I still see the actors, no matter how good they are, whereas the book is just my imagination and the story.

*is too scared to click*

OMG, separated at birth. I have to do that before I can see it, and get an Upset Rating, preferably from another parent, before I can read anything featuring angst and kids.

The Times gave the film 4/5 (from the Venice Film Festival premiere) and described it as 'a romance'. Their ratings are usually pretty dependable (rather than the Grauniad, which is snarky and hates enjoyable films).

Hahahaha.

The Veteran
You scored 72%!
You've picked up the majority of the classic rock basics. You probably have a classic rock collection and can sing along with most of the songs on your local radio station. This is not the highest score, but it is arguably the best: that subtle combination of impressive knowledge and not being a pretentious geek.

Hi there. I saw a post you made on [livejournal.com profile] ravurian's LJ.

I was wondering what the name of the actor/model was who appears in this LJ icon of yours?

This is the delightful model Boyd Holbrook (he's also in my original post icon, above, "Got Androgyny?"). He's widely used as Draco Malfoy throughout fandom.

You can check out all pictures of him to date in this Boyd (http://boyd.invisible-cities.net/) website by the amazing [livejournal.com profile] kattiya. And you can see many more icons and artistic endeavors at the LJ community [livejournal.com profile] ohreally___. Enjoy!
