I'm calling this my Huck Finn meme, from the first line of that book, which begins:
You don't know about me without you have read a book...

Ten things you'd never get from my HP fic without me explaining it to you here:

From The Waters of March

1. When Harry combs Draco's hair, he smells the scent of cloves and citrus and March rain. That's my attempt at trying to describe the smell of Safeguard soap, which I thought was manly enough that guys would use it.

2. The original character, Linda, is named after my niece. She doesn't know it, and hasn't read the story. She doesn't even know I write, but I know she does.

3. Hagrid gets left behind at Hogwarts because I can't write his dialog at all.

4. The theme of forgiveness and redemption was there from the beginning, but the problem Harry has with lying popped up as I wrote it.

5. When I first met my husband, way back in 1975, the first thing that attracted me was his long blond hair. I would comb it for him, and it was just beautifully silky and soft. So I have a real-life kink for combing a guy's long hair. And ergo, so does Harry.

6. Lisa Rourke, HP artist, drew the Draco picture I used for inspiration for my description of Draco when Harry first sees him in St. Mungo's. But the description of Draco's hair when Harry combs it is taken from the Theban Band's picture for Resonant's Transfigurations (the greenhouse scene).

7. I cheated like hell for all of the Latin. I don't know Latin. I used an on-line translator.

8. In the coffee house, Harry's usual is the house blend with room for cream and a dash of cinnamon. Guess what? So is mine.

9. I tried to keep the obvious slash confined to the last chapter in the expectation that my teen-aged kids would read it and I could hide that part. They didn't, and I needlessly harmed the story. Not a mistake I'll repeat. (I'll make new mistakes!)

10. It got its title from all the Brazilian music I was listening to when I wrote it. That is, when I
wasn't sitting through numerous fall soccer practices, trying not to get bitten by West-Nile-carrying mosquitoes, and avoiding a certain other mom who loved to come over and interrupt me with her non-stop motor-mouthing.
