Dear Isis took the trouble from her recovery - doing well, she says, you go, girl - to ask me the five questions thing -

Here are the rules:

1 - Leave a comment, saying you want to be interviewed.
2 - I will respond; I'll ask you five questions.
3 - You'll update your journal with my five questions, and your five answers.
4 - You'll include this explanation.
5 - You'll ask other people five questions when they want to be interviewed

(and 6. for bonus - if you want to, you can ask me one more question too)

And here are her questions and my answers:

1. Has your family read your slash fanfiction yet? Do they know what you're writing and reading?

They don't know exactly what I'm reading beyond HP fan fiction. My husband knows about the slash part, and he has read my first two stories (Chaining and Waters of March). He's not a Potter fan, has only read the first book and seen the movies. However, he's very encouraging that I'm writing and thinks it's positive and creative. Good thing, 'cause I'm always online anymore. My teenage kids are big HP fans; they both read Chaining which is gen, but I didn't encourage them to read anything after that. My 17-year-old daughter is very conservative (payback time for her parents), and my son (13) is just embarrassed to have parents at all right now. Our new motto is: it's a phase.

2. What's something about your husband that you really love?

He's one of the few people I can have intellectual discussions with. We are both overeducated and read too much. I can make witty asides about obscure topics and he always gets the reference and laughs.

3. Why did you decide to study geology?

Well, first I wanted to be an oceanographer and hang out on boats with the Cousteau boys. Fortunately, I flunked organic chemistry twice and couldn't continue in marine biology without it, because it turns out I get horribly seasick. I took my first geology class after my roommate liked it so much. I got into the classification part; a lot of geology is wonderfully straightforward. And I'm very lucky to have been able to stay a geologist for the past 25 years; most of those in the field change careers after too many layoffs (It's a volatile career).

4. If you could have any talent or ability, from natural (perfect pitch) to supernatural (telepathy), what would you choose?

I think it would be cool to be athletic, because I am so non-athletic. I can't run or throw or anything like that. My son is turning out to have a lot of natural ability there (basketball and soccer), and I find it amazing. Although the culture of worshipping sports figures worries me -- I hope he doesn't try football for that reason. Soccer in America is still obscure, so he won't be idolized if he keeps that up.

5. Name one person you admire (not me :-) and tell me why.

For years I've had a thing for Queen Elizabeth I. Sometimes I fantasize about going back in history and talking with her. To survive in such a time, being a woman, in a terribly political world, with her iffy youth and murdered mother...and she came out on top, admired by the masses and controlling the political scene around her. She fascinates me.
