So much for mainstream media reporting the whole story. I got a kick out of this: One in three women admits to having had anal sex by age 24. So that means quite a few slash writers know whereof they speak. Well, except for the prostate thingie.

I have a few pictures of Alaska to share. None of me, yet.

The Stattendam, from Sitka, Alaska It looks as though the ship is practically on the beach, but that's foreshortening. We had to take a tender to get to land.

Salmon at home Okay, you know the thing on National Geographic when they explain that salmon swim upstream and all? I had no idea there were so many of the buggers! Look at 'em! Every stream we saw was crammed with salmon. And these puppies were 2 feet long!

Basketball player with glacier Now this? This is my son, doing what he does best. Tunes out nature for the rim. That's Hubbard Glacier in the background.

Very COOL!! I took a cruise up the inside passage and spent some time in Sitka, too! I found the Russian Orthodox Church fascinating, as well as the National Historic Park there!

We took the cruise down - starting in Seward and ending in Vancouver. I think all the ships stop in sitka, and it was our first stop. I loved the Historic Park and have lots of pictures of us hiking.

Cool! I'm from Petersburg, very close by. I'm thinking of taking my boyfriend up there and showing him around some day. It's so beautiful; especially during the summer.^^

Oh, and we couldn't have had better weather. It was 90 in Juneau the day we docked there. After getting on the ship in Seward, it was sunny and warm. I was amazed, since we'd stocked up on tons of rain gear for the trip.

Wow, those are great pics. I've always wanted to go to Alaska. Australia, too.

I will just nod my head and say Mmmhmm regarding the anal sex thing. The abundance of uncharacteristically non-painful anal sex!fic in this fandom amazes me.

It was a terrific trip.

Yeah, the anal sex writing? I suppose that's why they call it fiction. And it's why I can't get into rimming as a kink. I can't dissociate my knowledge enough to just read and relax.

Hey, what's up with scheduling you to do your TWH thing during the ball? I mean WTF? Sorry to see that happen to you.

Oh, and I ate my fair share of salmon. They were on the dinner menu every single day. We went in August; a well-planned and long-awaited trip for the whole family.

For Eric, the best part of the trip was that court. The seas in the Inside Passage are calm, so it was just like playing at the rec center for him, except with whales. Well, not on the court, I meant.

Love the report! That's quite impressive, actually!

And beautiful pics, too. That ship really does look landed, doesn't it? And your son & the salmon! :) Alaska looks nice. :)

It was one of our best trips, and we've gone on some good ones. The weather was for the most part perfect - especially after boarding. Even Vancouver was sunny and warm. We were gone two weeks.

Thanks for the piccies!! (More?!)

The salmon picture makes you want to be a bear :D And the basket ball picture is just hilarious :)) Gorgeous glaciers!!

One day, when I'm very rich (harharhar), I'll take the Hurtigruten cruise in Norway. *sigh*

You know, when you take into consideration you're getting lodging, transportation, and meals, it really isn't as horribly expensive as you'd imagine. We just decided we're worth it. The kids are getting older now (my daughter turned 19 on the trip) and the future is promised to no one, so we figured why not now?

I'll post more pics when I get my husband's off his computer.

Oh, dear, that never occurred to me, because my own experience was not that at all. But coercion, pressure - not good. Why on earth would guys think that was better or more real? As the article said, here in the US it's not mentioned in the media At All.

see, now those of us that come from salmon country (seattle) think the rest of the world knows these sorts of things (and we've never experienced tinned salmon either, so we don't understand why everyone doesn't love salmon). i actually own a condo (that is being rented) in issaquah, a suburb of seattle. there is a salmon hatchery there, so we see salmon swimming up the little creek headed for where they hatched, they end up in this big tank and they are so many they are all nearly on top of each other piled to the edge of the water. pretty dang impressive, nature.

We went to two hatcheries - one in Juneau and one in Sitka - and it was exactly as you described. I just thought it was the coolest thing. Eric got to try to catch some as they jumped up one of the ladders (under supervision). I couldn't get over how big they were. Here we really only see trout, and if they get 12", that's big (for a river).

ah yes, well, if you hang out in the ocean it helps to be big. [*grin*] it is so funny what one gets used to. living on a coastal city, you eat mostly ocean fish, and they are all fairly large. you don't even think about it.

ladders are great for the fish, but also provide a feast for seals and such that can get near them. it tends to be a problem.

we had an award at work for achievement, that was a glass salmon (to signal endurance and persitance). we used to joke it was apropo since invariably we were all like salmon, swimming upstream trying to get anything done, and in the end you just got fucked and died [*smirk*]

looking forward to meeting you at twh, i believe i am chaser for one of your gigs, so i'll be your servant for a few hours [*bounces*]

Thanks (I think he's cute - worse, so do all the high school girls now). It took me a long time to get there, but it was so worth the trip.
