I had this grandiose idea of catching up with 6 weeks of good fics that I never had a chance to mention, but that's not exactly happening, so I'll just pick up the dance from here.

More Than One Way by [livejournal.com profile] hydaspes is a brilliantly written hurt/comfort that begins with a unique twist: disability by splinching. I love the attention to detail that the author uses - sights, sounds, little things. I was so entrenched in the story that when I finished, I had that surprised moment of finding myself back in my computer room. Do you do that, too?

An excerpt:

Potter never asks him about the hearing. He never asks Draco about the Dark Lord, or Snape or anything. It seems as though all he wants to know, Draco’s bare forearm told him.

I was looking for someone with a tattoo, he writes. That’s why I didn’t find you sooner.

Draco sniffs. “I don’t want to be found,” he grumbles. “I want to die and be gone from this hell. I’d rather be burning below than rotting in this…this prison,” he spits.

Stop shouting, Potter writes. The whole hospital can hear.

The second fic is by an author I'm unfamiliar with, who claims this is the first H/D she's written:

The Eloquence of Mortality by [livejournal.com profile] fleshdress is poetic, flowing, and beautifully written. It's one of those stories that play out perfectly so that when you hit the last sentence you just have to go back and reread it with your new-found insight. In fact, after I post, I'm off to do just that. After I read it this morning, it came back to me again and again during the day.

Excerpt:

Harry glanced significantly at the old Auror, and then turned and entered the chamber. The door locked behind him once more with a tiny, significant hiss of magic. The impenetrable walls allowed no noise from the rooms beyond and were bare but for the liquid clear expanse of the huge mirror through which Harry had been looking. It was a barren, silent room where even the steady ticking of the clock on the wall seemed to be coming from over a distance.

Then came the rustle of Draco’s robes as he shifted elegantly in his seat, tilting his head towards Harry.

"Oh God," he drawled. "They’ve called the cavalry."
