My Merry Smutmas fic was posted today, and I absolutely am over the moon for it - it's wonderful!

It's here

Neville/Draco, unlike anything I've ever read with this pairing before. I'm thrilled.

I've been sneaking away from company to check up on LJ. My nearly 80-year-old mother is spending the week with us. Think Aunt Marge. Well, at least we are the Dursleys in the scenario. Basically, I wonder how we manage to live our lives all the other days of the year without her micromanaging them. But anyway...

ETA: Wow. A Thousand Beautiful Things and Waters of March were nominated for a H/D fic award, here. I'm honored!

Just read your Merry Smutmas fic, it was fabulous. I don't usually read Neville/Draco as I can't imagine the pairing but this was brill'. My New Year's resolution should be to broaden my choices from just Harry/Draco, Lucius/Harry or Draco and the occasional Snarry. Maybe Neville's transformation was like that of the actor Jerry O'Connell (spelt correctly?) from pudgy kid in the film Stand By Me to hunk(ish) in Sliders?

I can't wait to find out who wrote this fic for me - I think s/he hit all my requested kinks which were, IIRC, rentboy, first time, plotty, and Draco with either Harry, Neville, Remus, or Ron. This author did a great job. But I am woefully lacking in figuring out who's written which. I bet you can't guess mine from the pile either, can you? You'll have to wait on that, too...

I loved your Smutmas fic - I'm dying to know who it is so I can properly drool.

Yay for being nominated - you totally deserve it. I mean my god the hair-coming scene in WoM alone! *shivers*

And ran across this backstage account - it's a good one and quite descriptive:

Wasn't that great? I adore it - of course I do; it's written to all my personal kinks!

Thanks for the congrats. I'm trying not to notice the voting (I forgot to mention there's voting going on there).

And the article is tres helpful. The fic is at the first beta (and the check is in the mail...) It's...quiet. Either she hates it and doesn't want to say, or she hasn't read it yet and doesn't want to say.

I really like the intriguing backstory here, and the characterization, especially of Neville.

I did feel, though, that the author could have spent more time on the sex scenes, building a sense of desire. The sex seemed rushed to me.

I do admire the way the story made the Neville/Draco pairing believable, which is hard to do.

Actually, I think I've read so many sex scenes by now, I appreciate the brevity if it means more plot! Sometimes I find myself skimming the details in bedroom scenes if it gets too long-winded with details. But I really liked the way this story unfolds, especially how almost clinical Neville is in the beginning, because I think that adds a layer of reality.

A.J. Hall got me into Draco/Neville in a big way, so I adore this pairing.

Now that I'm unmasked, I just want to say this comment made me giggle at length. If anything, I'm generally accused of too much time and detail on the smut. I wibbled and wibbled about the whole "plot please" requirement and thoroughly sat on my inclination to just go crazy with the sex. Guess I succeeded. ;)

And for what it's worth, they have sex three times (four, if you count the blowjob), of which the first two (or three) have nothing to do with desire. Hee!

OK, I have to warn you. I'm about to start gushing.

A Thousand Beautiful Things was one of the most amazing, most creative fics I've ever read. Period. I enjoyed the HELL out of it. I don't think I can truly explain to you how much I enjoyed reading this. I loved that the fic was often totally in Dean's point of view - the creativity behind that and the depth Dean's thoughtful point of view added to this tale was astounding. Harry and Draco's first kiss in the dungeons was electric. I think it's one of the best kissing scenes I've ever read. The chemistry, the feeling behind it... the way they were each touched by the other... amazing.

I thought Gregory and his awe of Draco and the way he saw him as an angel was brilliant and gave more depth to both characters. I loved Snape in this story, and his interactions with Draco.

I completely appreciated that this story wasn't so much Harry/Draco but it was more about the people - each individual person, and how they were involved in the war and how they coped. And your war writing was brilliant - nothing too technical or boring, but intense nonetheless. You didn't so much sweep over it as you said, yes, there is a war. OK, back to these characters. I thought the army of Harrys was a great idea.

Dean's artwork and Draco being a muggle model was fantastic. And of course the whole silent!Draco was beyond incredible. I loved Draco for that, and it was fascinating to watch him interact with others. I loved the way he and his house elf came to understand each other, and how she helped him understand himself. I'm glad, too, that you didn't make either Harry or Draco into these perfect and amazing specimens of humanity. They're really just regular people.

And I noticed the little details, too - I think details are what make a good fic a great fic. Like the Daily Prophet announcement about one of the twins and Luna having triplets - spot on and very amusing. There was so much honesty in this fic. It pervaded every word.

I can't even say anything bad. OH and I love Annie Lennox and "A Thousand Beautiful Things." I've listened to Bare while reading H/D more times than I can count, and how amazing is it that you've turned such a great song into an even better fic.

I hope this review does justice for how much I loved reading this story - nonstop, from start to finish - and how much I admire the obvious work and effort you put into making it just the way you imagined it in your mind.

Well, wow! Gosh! And thanks!

I love getting long feedback. This fic was by far the most ambitious thing I've written, so I'm glad it came through for you. I've got a few short stories in this universe here in my LJ, and the sequel (about 1/3 the length) is in beta at the moment but should be appearing within the month.

Squeee! Just found out 'At the Round Earth's Imagined Corners' was by you! *glomps* Are you archiving it on Skyehawke? (I'd like to rec it on my site's HP rec pages, and a Skyehawke link is usually better than an LJ one from a large fest, IMO...but just let me know, anyway.)

Yes, I'll get it on Skyehawke in the next few days. I'm glad you enjoyed it! No one knew I wrote it, because it isn't H/D. Although the one they thought I did write (by maeglinyedi) I'd be proud to call mine.

I'm pretty crap at guessing fic styles, but guessing via the author=pairing route seems a bit limiting, really. You write whatever you wish, dear, and I'll read it! :)

Neville/Draco just might eat my soul. O.O

Gaaaah, you write well. One of these days, I'm going to go all the way through and do a huge review of everything you've ever written that I've adored since friending and poking around your lj, but for now, just know that that I wish you a Late Merry Christmas! And that you are utterly brilliant. (Congrats on getting your fic published in Czech, as well!)

*hug* :D
