I was tagged by [livejournal.com profile] abbycadabra.

I'm reccing at least five stories in various fandoms. If you see your name on this list, please rec at least five stories or five authors in your fandom (or a multitude of fandoms, if that's your thing), and let me know about it here in the comments (i.e., leave me a link).

Well, I hope these delicious authors read my scribblings so they can continue this if they choose to (no, it's not a chain letter, no, no!)

Tags back! This is sort of cheating, but I couldn't leave this off the list. Takes several readings to absorb the flavor, the nuance, and the depth.

Harry didn't know how long they would stay. A few days, a month, six months: none of it mattered that much anymore. How long they stayed didn't matter, like the money didn't matter, because Malfoy had come into his family's fortune as of late, or the location didn't matter, because nowhere was safe anymore.

Sometimes Harry found himself hard pressed to find something that did matter, because the fact of the matter was, not much did.

The days bled into each other, the bluish hue of Mondays into the green tilt of Tuesdays into lavender Wednesdays and so on and so forth, until they were only left with one indefinable color that looked like every color in the rainbow at the same time, and yet was none of them.

It reminded Harry of Malfoy's eyes.

1. When Thou Feel'st It Cold by [livejournal.com profile] cave_canem

I've got one of those birthdays closing in on me. This left me in tears, but you young things may not have the same gut-wrenching reaction.

"What do you see when you look at me?" Draco demanded without preamble, speaking before he'd so much as come to a stop, a tremor in his voice.

Yeah, even rereading this to look for a quote, the tears...but, no, it's not a sad fic; not really sad at all.

2. A Soft Spot For Lost Causes by [livejournal.com profile] helenish

This is one of my current favorite read-and-reread fics. Ron and Draco, and hot, and sweet, and the dialogue, and the plot device that brings them together, and...ahhhh.

"Malfoy," Ron said slowly. Draco took another furtive spoonful of jam. "We knew about you. We thought you were dead. And I’ve—Death Eaters haven’t been exactly original in the punishments they choose to mete out to the followers who decide not to toe the party line. "

"I—"

"You’d been out of school, what, six months when you began passing information? And then you managed it for a year before you got sloppy—"

"Two years," Draco said.

"And then you got caught, and you were so pretty they didn’t want to kill you right away, and they—. And now here you are."

Draco sucked in a quick breath and took the last piece of toast. "And do all the little whores get to stay at Ron Weasley’s fantastic therapeutic get-away?" he said finally.

"No," Ron said.

3. Body and Soul by [livejournal.com profile] prillalar

Short. Angsty. Wonderful. H/D.

"We have to go," Harry said. There was nothing he wanted so much right now as to leave. But Draco still wouldn't go and Harry still didn't know how he was to make him.

4. The Kindly Ones by [livejournal.com profile] ajhalluk

You know I have to add one of A.J. Hall's fics. This one, for personal reasons, will always be linked with droughts in Santa Fe, New Mexico, although there's water, water everywhere. These are the fics that give fanfiction a good name.

Draco's eyes glittered in the moonlight. His tongue flicked out, sweeping across his lips in a lazy, defining arc.

"Well," he drawled, "now you've done it, it would be a crying shame to waste it. Especially since it was a present."

He bent his head, and, with the concentrated precision of a Burmese cat applying itself to a pool of spilled cream, began lapping at the champagne trail that led down Neville's body.

5. Shelter From the Storm by [livejournal.com profile] isiscolo

There is not nearly enough Draco/Snape on the planet. Isis rectifies that beautifully, with her mature, considered style. Sophisticated and hot!

Draco looked up helplessly at the dark eyes, burning with desire. What could he say? He had run this scene, or one like it, through his head a million times, but had never expected it would ever play out in life.

6. Not Yet by [livejournal.com profile] zionsstarfish

ZS writes the most lovely, heartwarming, yet not always cut-and-dried fluffy H/D ever. I adore her "Way of the World" but I'm saving that for an Xmas story rec list! Still, this one is every bit as delightful.

Harry stopped and turned. "Draco, I’m sorry. I wish I knew how to do this. Maybe it’s one of those life skills I never picked up as a child, like eating with my mouth shut or looking both ways before crossing the street. I wish I knew how to be your friend like a normal person. Yeah, go ahead and insert that crack about my so-called normalcy here. But the truth is, I don’t. I don’t know how to say the right things at the right times. I don’t know when you need a hug, or when you need to be alone, or when you need me to stay but say nothing. I came here because it’s the only thing I know how to do. I know how to save your goddamned life. So if you don’t mind, I’m going to position myself strategically such that, should a blood-sucking fuzzy leech or a sap-secreting leaf attempt to harm you, I’ll be able to push you out of the way."

Harry and Draco - NC-17 by [livejournal.com profile] waccawheels

From last year's Merry Smutmas challenge. One of the most erotic things I've come upon. I love the style, I love the captured moment.

Whew! Am I the only LJ-er who codes all this HTML by hand?

No. I just finished coding 104 recs by hand.

OMG! Obviously you are more insane than even I am!

You know, why doesn't hand-coding have that same cachet as does, say, hand-knitting, or tatting, or guitar-whittling? What great Xmas presents we could contrive for our friends!

Hell, I'd rather knit a scarf any day rather than hand code anything.

Gah!

For two reasons:

The first, wow! Wherever did you find that delicious Boyd mood set thing, or whatever it's called? Because it is to die for and imusthaveitrightnowomg!

The second, I'm on here! I'm on here! You didn't have to put me on here! Gah! LOL, I'm, like, having a meltdown over here.

I don't think I've read any of these except number two and my own (obviously). So now I have some good reading material for the weekend. Yay! Oh, and also? That art. is. amazing.

...And I never thought of this as a chain letter. It's an oddly scary thought.

Abby! I don't know if you ever got the email (bounced)/saw the post, but I was pimping you, the Boyd site, etc awhile back.

I also pimped the Boyd moodtheme which [livejournal.com profile] gostoffer made for me here:

And, hmmm also planning an update, and would love to include some of your fabulouso icons - can I?

Yes, of course! Sorry it's taken me so long to reply.

I'm not keen on most fanart (nothing against the illustrators, just not my cuppa), but that is one seriously yummy picture.

(I'm enjoying your recs in general, btw, and can't you write that ATBT sequel any faster? (Just kidding. Seriously. If I had a Merrily We Go Along t-shirt it would say "World's Slowest Scribbler," which is why I stick with drabbles.))

Ah, the evils of hand-coding HTML come to light! The link is now fixed and thanks for pointing it out. The story is worth reading. Angst warning, though.

I'll be sure to check it out, as I almost always like the stories that you rec :D

Ooh, yay! More recs! I've read some of those, but not all, and you have yet to steer me wrong even though I've been such a "puppy love" shipper. That I've written two H/Ds for the lovely [livejournal.com profile] snottygrrl does say that I'm interested in the pairing, though. Now I need to get back to my George/Remus, the fourth in the "Cartography" series. So much fic, so little time... but thanks to cable internet, it's much, much easier!!

and thank you again for your kind comments in my LJ, and also about my writing. I should take the time to reread your novel, which was captivating!

You are insane. I can't believe you code by hand! I would never post if I had to do that - it would take me forever.

What they heck do other folks do? I'm actually quite adept at coding by hand. I had to learn it long before there were programs to do it for me, but I never got much beyond the real basics.
