Recovering - the day after.
Nov. 3rd, 2004 02:12 pmIt doesn't seem to matter how many days-after-catastrophic-elections I experience, they never get any easier.
*deep breath* I survived Nixon. I survived Reagan. I survived Bush the First. I survived the first four years of Bush the Second.
I can survive this. But damn, I don't have to like it!
Not a lot of work is getting done here today. Everyone's doing a post-mortem.
Oddly enough, Colorado, which went for Bush, managed to elect a Democratic senator to replace a retiring Republican, plus came up with a Dem majority in both state house and senate for the first time in 30 years. The progressive initiatives passed as well (increased taxes for mass transit, for schools, for renewable energy). What a schizophrenic state I live in!

Wealthy activists stealthily financed Democratic contests
Think you know how the RMN feels about it - "stealthily"? Nothing the Republicans haven't been successful at for years.

Date: 2004-11-03 03:01 pm (UTC)I was just talking with friends about this today. I think voters are a sly lot, not wanting to give too much power to one party or another. It's like they want their own checks & balances. Interesting. Glad to hear about the Senator, though!

Date: 2004-11-04 12:17 am (UTC)am thoroughly bewildered and upset by the 11 states that passed gay marriage bans. [*am bemused*]
will work harder on residency over here in nz, where there are many issues, but ones i can live more easily with.

Date: 2004-11-04 06:03 pm (UTC)That's my biggest fear - Bush will pass, but the judges he appoints will linger on for decades.
Word!

Date: 2004-11-04 01:33 pm (UTC)Hmm. Colorado. Yes. I will add that to my store of Colorado information. So far I have your information, and a Merle Haggard song which says that if God doesn't live in Colorado He probably spends most of His time there.
Yep. I know lot's of useful stuff.
(The Merle Haggard song? Totally my Dad's fault. Is it any wonder I turned out the way I did?)

Date: 2004-11-04 06:17 pm (UTC)Maybe I shall plan a lesson for you in Colorado lore, so you won't be caught like this again...
1. Colorado is Spanish for "the color red". Named after the river.
2. Our state bird is the lark bunting. I've never seen a lark bunting in my whole life.
3. Our state song is "Where the Columbines Grow". I think The Clash has a version on an early, out-of print album, but I could be wrong about that.
I shall ask you to review this site (http://www.enchantedlearning.com/usa/states/colorado/) before I set the exam Friday. Extra credit will be given if you can discover the state rock.
The star on the map is where I live: Denver. The Mile High City.
