Oh, Geoviki is posting on a Friday night, again. And look, she's listening to Smokey Robinson, which guarantees she's gonna be all "Oh, let me tell you about my ancient history" and "I remember listening to this song about a million years ago in Wyoming geology field camp late at night when the radio DJ would play "Quiet Storm" even though the nearest black person was about 1,200 miles away."

I bet she's been into the red wine again, too.

And of course you are right.

I noticed here that I have a bunch of new LJ readers. But for the life of me, I can't figure out where you all have found me. Well a couple I can - [livejournal.com profile] 2am_optimism is an AJHall AND Boyd Holbrook fan, so that's an easy one. Hi! But some of you don't even seem to be HP fans?? What's up with that? Hi to you, too.

So, will our first challenger enter and sign in, please (and if you know which TV show that's from, you're even older than I am, and there's only one of you on my list with that honor!!!)

Why are you here? For the recs? For the meta? For me going on and on and on about music that was popular too long ago? (more important: how long will you tolerate this drivel?)

True confessions

Well I would ask what my line was, but....

Honestly, I read A Thousand Beatiful Things a long time ago but had no idea your LJ existed. Found ATBT by stalking Isis' rec page - for about a year.

How did I find you (your LJ)? I confess.....I started drooling over your sweater Draco icon and clicked on the icon. That took me to the icon page. I then checked out the LJ, saw a reference to AJ Hall and followed the rabbit hole from there. It was only later that I finally made the connection between the person with reading taste and yummy icons and the amazingly gifted author. I never claimed to be very bright. ;)

Why am I here? Recs, meta, and especially the babbling. The real question is how long will you tolerate me?

Well I would ask what my line was, but....

And we have a winner!!!

And with our connection of ATBT, Boyd Holbrook, and A.J. Hall, we are obviously meant to be!

And I shall tolerate you quite well, I imagine.

First to reply?

May I have the honor?

I am following your LJ because you seem to be about my age, have many of the same opinions I do, and I think you live in a place I love. I used to live in Laramie, and miss it greatly. I especially get a kick from your references to the weather.

And, I loved your thousand beautiful things, and love your recs, and in general, get a kick out of reading your LJ.

I have no idea where I found the link to you, but I am glad I did! And I am raising my glass to you across the miles!

Thank you. I almost got to visit Laramie this fall - the soccer league being what it is these days - but Laramie comes to our home field. For now.

And I raise my glass to you, too. Oh, wait - it's empty...I must rectify that immediately!

hmmm...that may be scary for both of us!

And I need to gear up for another recs post, it would seem.

For the life of me, I can't recall the precise bundle o' deep thoughts that pulled me in. It might have been your thoughts on the term "OOC", or maybe your interesting analysis of JKR's interview, or perhaps a nice batch of interesting recs. Not too helpful, huh? :)

It's simply because [livejournal.com profile] laurelwood is a cool person and a friend of mine, and [livejournal.com profile] geoviki is a cool person and a friend of mine, and therefore you have a natural affinity. :-)

No, I think that list was helpful. I just have been getting a clump of new friends and I was too curious what happened...

Lord knows I haven't written fic this month. Resting on the ol' backside.

And if Isis thinks you're cool, then it's a given!

Hi :)

I friended you because I am a Harry Potter fan - although as I write this I'm realising I haven't updated my interests. More specifically, I enjoy Harry/Draco and recently read A Thousand Beautiful Things.

I thought it was an amazing story, and also enjoy your recs; meaning to friend a while ago. I got around to it yesterday when [livejournal.com profile] 2am_optimism mentioned your A.J. Hall links page.

Thanks for the nice words. I need to work up some new recs - a lot of posts here seem to mention that. I'll never be as prolific as, say, [livejournal.com profile] painless_j or [livejournal.com profile] dracorocksmysox, but every now and again, I'm inspired.

Oh, my dear, don't ever go there!! I do that all the time. "I'll never be as prolific as [livejournal.com profile] musesfool[livejournal.com profile] copperbadgeinsert/rampant HP writer here. And then I make myself crazy. So I've tried to stop such thoughts in the bud. Having written A Thousand Beautiful Things should allow you to sit on your laurels for a little bit!

Loved it by the way, who didn't?

Oh, you'd be amazed! ATBT has a whole thread on the hate_fic place. Let's see if I can remember: dull as dry toast, OOC, twee, crapfic...that's off the top of my head.

Good thing I don't take it all seriously, huh?

More recs, coming up.

Hi!

I'm here because I read A Thousand Beautiful Things (and I even commented on it - anonymously, I think), and I like friending (did I *really* just use 'friend' in the gerund form? - oy) the live journals of authors I admire/enjoy/want to stalk until they write more!more!more!

um, I'm here for the meta, the recs, and any updates on your own work you feel like tossing our way.

If you posted an email address, I answered your comment. I was brought up to write my thank-you responses.

Otherwise, I'll thank you here.

I've got one whole scene of a little ATBT sequel written. When I take walks at work, I work on plotting it out, and I have a few more scenes in my head. But I'll not post it until it's finished - I'm the queen of anti-WIP.

you did answer my comment - my thanks for your courtesy.

it's great that you're working on a sequel, and I will be patience personified in deference to the fact that when you post I'll get to consume the the thing whole, not in the dribs and drabs of a WIP.

Check out my user_info for the links to all the Boyd pics I know about. Although [livejournal.com profile] kattiya is working on a web site to bestow upon us every Boyd pic in the universe. Can't wait!

It's unseemly, I realize. Thank god for pseudonyms.

...because I really enjoyed "A Thousand Beautiful Things," especially the Dean/Seamus interaction. It was recced by so many people I can't possibly remember who got me to it, but I read it, thoroughly enjoyed it, emailed you a review, and you emailed back. Thusly I discovered your LJ, and I do appreciate your recs even if I'm not quite the Draco-fan that you (and you, too, ms. [livejournal.com profile] snottygrrl) are. Plus you took the time to read a couple of my [decidedly Harry/Draco-absent] stories and cared enough about them to write a comment, and even enjoyed them, so for that I am grateful.

I'm in my mid-30's so I get most of your music references, but mostly you're on my flist because you're obviously a good writer (can't be enough of those!), and that you're willing to read some of my stories is a plus. Thoughtful posting means a lot, so I'll stick around as long as you continue doing so.

I'm also in admiration that you try and keep up with your friends' list. You must have hundreds. ;)

And hey- tonight I'm into the white wine, but when I go to Scotland, it's going to be red, for sure. And no computer.

Oh, I think you are a superb writer! I just posted some feedback to your Addiction series - a trio of truly wonderful scenes. And when [livejournal.com profile] painless_j asked for Sirius recs, the only one I had bookmarked was your "Essence of Black". (But I do read other pairings than H/D, I do!)

I friend carefully, because I do keep up with friends' journals. I don't have hundreds, though. Not like, say, Aja or Ivy or Isis or Copperbadge or Switchknife...I could go on.

Scotland - ohh. I went there in 1984, I think, and fell in love with it. We took the train all the way to the Isle of Skye. I want to go back! Lucky you.

Oh, I think you are a superb writer!

Between this and your post about my angstfic, I'm on cloud 9. Thank you so much, especially coming from you!

And when painless_j asked for Sirius recs, the only one I had bookmarked was your "Essence of Black".

Wow. That's probably the best compliment I could receive. I'm such a non-well-known writer in HP fandom, that's really tremendous. I'm gratified that you enjoyed it enough to recommend it to someone else.

Scotland - ohh. I went there in 1984, I think, and fell in love with it. We took the train all the way to the Isle of Skye. I want to go back! Lucky you.

Mr. Thev and I went in 2000 and did fall in love. We took a train from Glasgow up to Islay and then a ferry across to the island of Iona. Truly a magical place, which was why I wanted to go back, but to an even more isolated place this time, and solo. Wool, wind, single malt, and that gorgeous accent. It's hard to wait for Saturday to come!!

Thanks again for your comments- and I do hope that you're writing yourself, as I'm sure all of the other admirers of ATBT (myself included) want to read more of your stories, whether HP or not.

GK: Drawn by fics, stays for journals

I'm here because I love A Thousand Beautiful Things and The Waters of March (I just read WOM today and realized I'd read it before; the haircombing scenes are very powerful). I thought the way you brought the silencing curse back into ATBT after the reader had forgotten it was brilliant, and your vow-of-silence Draco was incredibly compelling, as was your portrait of Dean working through his guilt over betraying Seamus. As I've written to Pandarus, erotica written about characters the narrator has gotten us to care about, who have conflicts and personalities and issues and faults, is the hottest of all.

I read only a handful of journals at the moment, due to lack of time and that pesky RL, but those I read, I read regularly. I find it very rewarding to follow the thoughtful writings of HP fans about my own age. I have a real life and then a separate existence as a reader of HP slash, and I've found that reading the journals of the writers I enjoy is almost as rewarding as reading their writing. The people who write moving, intelligent, and gripping stories tend to write intelligent and compelling journals as well.

Also, you seem genuinely interested in learning something about those who friend you, which is great.

Oh, thanks for saying such nice things about my fics - I always appreciate it. WoM was my first attempt at slash, the learning curve for ATBT. There are things I'd change about it now, but I do like the hair combing. My little kink.

Are we close in age? Hardly anyone is - I always feel odd about that, to tell you the truth. But I really like the way LJ strips the non-essentials from an exchange. Things get very quickly to: are you interesting? Are you articulate? Do we share views? Or will you teach me new things? Do you adore my writing? Do you read my fics or do I read yours? And all the other stuff fades.
