A truly bimodal post
Jul. 16th, 2004 12:39 pmI've updated my master list of A.J. Hall's HP fics, adding one fic, The Wizard From Outer Space (gotta love that title!), and the 3 spoiler posts for Lust over Pendle and Dissipation and Despair she made for
accio_spoilers .

And here's a non-HP and generally odd topic...
And on a wholly unrelated topic, I found myself listening to R.E.M.'s "What's the Frequency, Kenneth?" and trying to remember the details linking this to Dan Rather. For those who are clueless about this connection, a near-version of the song's title words were uttered by someone who rather viciously assaulted the newsman as he was walking down the street. So I'm trying to figure out which came first: song or attack. I mean, it makes (limited) sense that a mentally ill person could have been reciting the lyrics of a famous song. So off to Google I went (have I told you lately how much I love the Internet? All this information at my fingertips!). Turns out, no, the attack came first (in 1986, the song was released in 1994). And R.E.M. was intrigued by the words and turned them into a song (which is not actually about the attack).
But to me, what makes this such a story of life in the late 20th century, is that, well, let me quote the article: "Rather later appeared onstage with R.E.M. on CBS's The Late Show with David Letterman." Singing this song. There's even a picture of this historic event: Dan and R.E.M
Talk about closing the circle.
Yeah, I don't know why this kind of story fascinates me. But it does.
