I'm so easy.

So many writers and artists please me. If it's articulate, well-written, beautiful, and has a hook, I'm happy.

I haven't been shy about my enthusiasm, either. It's no secret that I adore the sweet, the uplifting, the emotionally rewarding. If it's H/D, all the better, but I've been known to stray frequently.

I also like the intellectually challenging, the mentally stimulating, the thoughtful, serious things.

But I bet you didn't know I also have a thing for special angsty works. The kind that leave you saying, "Yes, that was my heart that you just ripped out and left for dead. That quivering pile, there, yes, that's it. Are you quite done with it? Because I think I'd like it back now."

Some of you may have read [livejournal.com profile] abbycadabra 's stunning Wildfire

But it was hard to access, because she posted it in her locked journal. Until now! You can all go read it on the new, improved Skyehawke.
(but take a minute to look at her beautiful Boyd Holbrook LJ title page)

It's got that haunting quality of Cassie Claire's "After the Flood", the poetic description of Olympia's "Tale of the Shining Prince".

Angst. Dark!Harry and Lost!Draco and lots of interhouse relations (aka smut). But it's so poetic, so beautifully written. So painful.

Harry knows everything about Malfoy's skin.

He knows nothing about what might be under it.

And he likes it that way.

"You're beautiful."

And Draco ignores that ache in his chest because he knows that Harry doesn't mean it.

"So are you," Draco breathes, instantly regretting it, because he knows that he does.

"Open your eyes," Harry says, thumb still circling. "Open your eyes for me, Draco."

And he does exactly that, because he always listens when Harry orders, always asks how high when Harry says jump.

The fires are almost here. Draco can see their bodies fully, from the orange-yellow centers to the red burnt tips high in the black sky, and it hurts his eyes, too bright, too bright.

"Don't close them. Don't."

And Draco listens, because there was never any doubt that he would.

I've been rereading some other things I'd flown through on my first cut through terrific fic. I rediscovered [livejournal.com profile] hp_femme 's Wine of Life , a well-plotted Draco/Ron with such nice characterizations and great dialog.

Then I spent a blissful afternoon revisiting [livejournal.com profile] pandarus 's Invisible to See . I adore this H/D fic, everything about it. So many details, such 17-year-old boyhood emotions, nifty plot. The prologue has such a hook to it, too.

ETA: Abby made me two Boyd icons, and I went and upgraded to 50 icons so I didn't have to bury my old dogs or peeps or - heaven forbid - any of my existing Dracos. Isn't this pretty?

Slithering my way into a new fandom, recs are my guides in the dark. And such tempting morsels you've picked from 'Wildfire'! I think that shall be my Friday night treat.

Thanks!

Oh, I approve of your tasty icon.

I plan to reread Wildfire, too, even though I just read it last night and this morning.

I've been playing the same Steely Dan CD for days, too. I suspect it's a sign of impending mental illness, but I don't want to delve too deeply into that, for fear of what I might learn!

Oh, I approve of your tasty icon.

Thank you! I made myself a new LJ layout, and then couldn't resist making an icon from it. Major credit to whoever it was who originally suggested that Boyd Holbrook has the look of an adult Draco.

I got distracted last night, but Wildfire is downloaded and ready to read sometime this weekend.

recs are much appreciated

I've been on what can only be described as an HP Bender these past few days - reading Transfigurations, Irresistible Poison, fics from Maya, Fabularasa, Cassie Claire, today AJ Hall!

Going to read Invisible To See now :D

Wow. Thank you so much for the rec. That has to be one of the loveliest introductions I've ever received... No, I think it is the loveliest. Again, wow. Thank you!

And you are ever so welcome for the icons, love. And now you've fifty to play with! I can't remember how I ever survived with less than fifty. And people call the 20's the Era of Excess.

You certainly deserve it.

And thanks again for the icons. Umm, I dodged the highlights a bit to brighten it. And where in tarnation is the "convert this photo to sepia" tool in Photoshop? I've been poking at another image with sticks to no avail.

Oh, it looks nice brighter. I have an affinity for the dark. Eh.

And where in tarnation is the "convert this photo to sepia" tool in Photoshop?

LOL! I don't know of one, if there even is one. I use the Gradient Map tool: Image, adjustments, gradient map. From there I put the browns and oranges just how I like 'em.

If you have any other questions... Well, I love answering them. :)
