Do you know how stupidly long it took me to bother to hunt down a site like this one:
http://www.realkana.com/
Instead I'd made little flashcards to keep in my handbag. Well, those are great, too, to use when I'm stuck waiting somewhere with nothing to do. Still, this is way cooler. Now I can get over those mental hiccups over certain letters that my mnemonic gimmick is too slow to instantly recognize.

This one gives you ten seconds to type the answer, so, the time factor has helped me get better and more automatic in my recognition.
And I'm currently learning Japanese off this site:
http://www.guidetojapanese.org/completeguide.html
It makes you learn grammar in a "think like a Japanese-speaking person thinks" way, and gives you the vocab and kanji to accompany every new lesson. I really like it!

I'm good with sex noises now, but somehow that's not gonna help much when I travel to Japan. Unless I go to Ni-Choume or something.
