I finally watched it and now I have tears in my eyes. Damn. Same age as me. Nearly the same eyebrows.

Clearly it hit a nerve worldwide! I've watched it a bunch so far and get weepy every time. It reminds me of you but solely for the accent! No way do you make me think of her in any other respect.

I cried so hard.

I've been wanting to see this, but this is the first link that worked. Thanks so much.

Oh, I love her! That was on the news this evening (first time I'd seen or even heard of her) and I nearly whooped. What an utterly corking lady!

Well, between this morning and tonight, it's also been all over the American press. What a feel-good story!

Oh yes, my husband just showed me that this morning. Wonderful!
What a character that Susan is. So nice to see something good like this. Reminds me of when Paul Potts (I think that was his name) blew them away with the opera. Thanks for sharing.

Hope you don't mind if I spread the joy? I'm putting it on my LJ too.

I had to check out Paul Potts, too, after your mention, on YouTube. It's so cool that these folks get a real shot at reaching an audience they might never have done.

Share away! Half the world is doing the same.

Thanks for posting this. I saw the story on CNN last night and had tears in my eyes, but hearing the judges talking about her was incredible. This is a woman who deserves to go far.

She sure does! I can't believe how confident she seemed while singing. So impressive.

I said to Mr Lusi today that I bet in her wildest imaginings Susan Boyle never thought she'd recc'd from LJ to LJ across the internet.

I watched an interview from her local TV studio on YouTube as well. It was funny becasue the interviewer had little talent for his own job. He actually asked her how her cat was taking it! Now there's a question with no answer.

Cheeky bastard! I'll look that footage up.

I really hate this kind of shows, we have them in Holland too, an exact copycat of this, whit the host who thinks himself the most funny man in the universe. Lets be all rude to those poor smugs who think they have talent... a formula that is funny for 10 minutes but not for 3 seasons
And as I turn to an other channel after 5 minutes I never see these little jewels among the heaps of trash.

An incredible voice, no doubt about it.
a voice that sounds surpricenly young for a woman of 47.

Oh, I never watch those shows either, although I pick up songs here and there if they're any good. It was so fun to see the audience immediately embrace her after only one line of her song.

Being 47 myself, I give Susan two thumbs up! She's made of awesome, and I bet she knew all the time that she was going to surprise these guys. Although I think that a lot of the surprise is that she isn't gorgeous and glamourous more than her age. Ageism is a real thing, but 47 isn't 87, y'know? And in show biz, if you're not pretty, you're toast.

This show is an AI clone, right? I've never seen a whole ep of AI (I've watched enough humiliating clips, though), so I wasn't sure. Same guy, Simon? Bleh. I hate those shows. Those people were all ready to mock her, and she kicked their arses. Go her. :D

I think it was a combination of all of it: age, appearance, small-town background, goofy hip-shake there. But I saw an interview of KT Tunstall and she was first told she was too old - at 30!

Actually AI is a clone of an originally British show: Pop Idol. It didn't last as long. So who's copying whom, I'm wondering?

Yeah, Simon is the same.

so I go to watch to see what's this all about having seen this link posted a couple places today...
wow
It's so amazing because it's actually "real". You think it's going to be one of those people who thinks they can sing but really can't. Then when you hear it, you're thinking it's a total plant, as in we're going to hear that she's actually some famous West End performer... she sounded that good. That song is so Hard to sing and she sounded like she performed it on stage 6 times a week. The fact that she really is this local singer who has that calibler voice... wow. No wonder they looked so stunned. Very cool. Thanks for the link. What a feel good moment. I hope she cashes in!

I thought about this all day, it was so inspiring. It's causing such a commotion, I can't expect that she won't gain something good from it. I mean, even William Hung, who was atrocious, got a record deal for a little bit.

Wow is right!

Yes! \o/ I watched this yesterday and was BLOWN AWAY! I don't watch those shows... I hate seeing the sneers and derision from both audience and judges... so that's why I enjoyed her so much, she totally pwned them! Don't judge THAT book by it's cover!!

But as a singer myself? What completely stunned me was her vocal ability on the bridge... those incremental ascending notes with the final sustained note brought to crescendo... FANTASTIC!!

Date: 2009-04-16 02:52 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] geoviki.livejournal.com
Oh, there was so much technically good about her, and you're right: the bridge was perfect. I was impressed that even though you know she must have been nervous, you really can't hear it in her voice.

I don't watch them either, only the performances that people talk about, and then I hunt them down on YouTube.

Made me cry like a baby. Now I'm trying to work out how to play a saved .flv file on my pc, because I've saved it.

So beautiful. Long may Susan Boyle sing and give such joy to the world.

Thank you!
