Ways to tell it's my fic

Snow day! We got 2 hours off work to avoid the snowy rush hour. So I'm jumping on the meme bandwagon seen on [livejournal.com profile] isiscolo and other LJs...

1. The title is either a song or CD title or from song lyrics, and probably song lyrics begin each chapter as well. No matter how much [livejournal.com profile] ravurian bitches at me for it.

2. It's long.

3. There's lots of plot to it. Lots and lots and lots of plot to it. Which is why it's so long.

4. There's probably at least one original character in there. Or else a minor canon character who takes a lead role.

5. Even though it'll be Britpicked, there'll still be something obviously American that got missed.

6. I'll probably use the words "elegant" and "slender" somewhere.

7. It'll be posted all at once no matter how long it is - I don't release WIPs into the wild.

8. Draco's a lead character...

9. ...and he's not evil...

10. ...and he ends up with Harry.

Do you readers notice any other peculiarities of mine?

Hee! I instantly thought, "long, plotty Harry/Draco with song lyrics!"

[identity profile] geoviki.livejournal.com 2006-01-21 05:18 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm so obvious, I would have thought. But I didn't add the song lyrics to the mpreg story until after I was revealed as its author. And no one listens to George Michael, so they didn't recognize the song lyric title. Mwahahaa.

You forgot - 'insanely well written, and usually highlighting something about the way people communicate'

and 'prone to excessive and enthusiastic fangirling'

and 'SQUEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE appears in most reader comments, as do the words 'melty' and 'exquisite' '

:D

Thank you, my dear! I'm blushing over here.

I would probably mention the sense of humour you have. Or your Draco seems to have, at any rate. I've had some great laighs outta your stuff. *g*

[identity profile] geoviki.livejournal.com 2006-01-21 05:20 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, thanks! That's not something that came to my mind, really, but it makes me happy to hear it. We all need more laughter in our lives.

Some terrific magic. Well, I realise one doesn't say it about themselves, but anyway, you are the best at original, complicated and interesting magic.

There also will be something about kindness or understanding.

Thanks! I hadn't thought of that one.

Wow, PJ, are you trying to give me a swollen head??! Those are some awesome things to say, and coming from you, really appreciated, too.

[identity profile] painless-j.livejournal.com 2006-01-21 08:43 pm (UTC)(link)
That's a simple truth. If simple truths give you a swollen head, so be it :)

* your main characters are eventually able so see from each others perspective and become understanding of one another. Or at least sympathetic.

* your stories are able to be read, re-read and re-read a lot and maintain their freshness.

and i'm drooling over your Desire icon. That's my favorite rendition of Desire in that novella.

[identity profile] geoviki.livejournal.com 2006-01-21 05:25 pm (UTC)(link)
It is a nice icon! It was made by Deralte, but I hardly get to use it.

And I appreciate the comments very much - I feel humble here. I didn't know folks got that out of my stories. Well, they tell me sometimes, but I forget. So thanks.

*cheers* for #'s 8, 9 & 10. :)

You know, I read far more pairings, but when it comes time to write, H/D comes out.

.. and it's because of these ten that I think you're one of the best writers in fandom because ZOMGDRACOLOVE!!!!1111

Thanks! And I like your new user name and the clever way you came up with it. Seems like a lot of namechanging going on this month - new year, new name, maybe?

Icon love! Hahahaha!

Thank you. It was a fun meme, one that wasn't too off-fandom.

[identity profile] waterbird.livejournal.com 2006-01-20 05:03 pm (UTC)(link)
Sharp, economical writing, thoughtfully planned plots (and lots of it – yay!), brilliant characterisations – and at least one tiny detail that I overlook the first time reading and kick myself for at the end.

[identity profile] geoviki.livejournal.com 2006-01-21 05:30 pm (UTC)(link)
How sweet of you to say all that! I liked the thing about that hidden detail - I do try to work that in, so I'm glad it works. Thanks!

[identity profile] cutecoati.livejournal.com 2006-01-20 07:53 pm (UTC)(link)
Details. Lots of tiny, tiny details, carefully intertwining and making up one gorgeous fic. Hell, you made me read AND enjoy mpreg, there's nothing left to say...

[identity profile] geoviki.livejournal.com 2006-01-21 05:31 pm (UTC)(link)
Thanks! I love to go back and rewrite lots of detail into my scenes. It's the one trick I learned from John Le Carre way back when I first started writing.

[identity profile] luci0logy.livejournal.com 2006-01-21 08:48 am (UTC)(link)
There's lots of plot to it. Lots and lots and lots of plot to it. Which is why it's so long.

Thank god someone understands the concept of plot. And long? All the more time to be immeresed in the wonderful world you create.

Glad you survived your mum's visit. Didn't she miss the plane Christmas 2004 as well?

[identity profile] geoviki.livejournal.com 2006-01-21 05:33 pm (UTC)(link)
Thanks. I may lack sheer numbers of fics, but I think I might not suffer if word counts were compared. It just takes me so long to get it right!

That was back in August, and her airline went on strike. We aren't doing well in the airline front at all. At least this time we could just go on back home.

[identity profile] mayflo.livejournal.com 2006-01-22 05:21 pm (UTC)(link)
Your Draco is SO beautiful, greaceful and cat-like and so BOYD XD

Ways to tell it's my fic

[identity profile] jinxgirl71.livejournal.com 2006-05-12 12:42 pm (UTC)(link)
I love your stories because of all of those reasons. Particularly because " It's long. There's lots of plot to it. Lots and lots and lots of plot to it. Which is why it's so long. It'll be posted all at once no matter how long it is." Especially that last reason. And because "he ends up with Harry." And they are intelligent and I just love reading them.

Thanks for saying so, Jinx! I'm very flattered that you think my stuff's intelligent. *preens a bit*
