TWH post

Okay, I'm sensitive to the fact that I'm here and you (probably) are not, so in the interest of not being too jealous of us, please note it's raining cats and dogs today, and the conference is not contained to one site. The Quidditch players were coming in to the locker rooms just bathed in mud. Er, if wet, mud-streaked folks are your kink, then, yes, be jealous.

You should be jealous of me, however, because [livejournal.com profile] waccawheels drew Harry-Draco art for me. I'll post when I get home to my scanner. Her idea of "drawble" is a full-size piece of art! And she's a lovely person, let me just say. ETA: I want to rave a bit more about Wacca, because she was so dedicated and gracious. She was scheduled from noon to 2:00, but that lovely gal sat there and drew for people until 6:30 PM with no break. Absolutely amazing.

The thing that surprised me the most is how, for lack of better description, real, alive, and dynamic everyone is that I've met. I know touching each other on LJ is a great experience, but it just doesn't let you fathom how cool folks really are. I never met more than 2 of you IRL before. The Snape women have adopted me, but the H/D women rock!

My roomate, [livejournal.com profile] isiscolo has posted some pictures, but I'm not in them so far. I've given her shit about that, of course.

We did write a bizarre [livejournal.com profile] pornish_pixies story and posted it last night. Nine of us. Alcohol was involved.

Also? I had always felt myself quite an outlier - being of a certain age. But let me tell you, there are many more fans in their 40's than you'd suspect. Although this con is a bit self-selecting due to the cost. Still, it's so nice to know I'm not so out of the ordinary. Men, though? Still a big aberation. Slash? We'd estimate a huge presence. I hear rumors that there are het and gen people here, but I couldn't say. [livejournal.com profile] amanuensis1 printed up some badges that read, "Yes, I'm here for the slash." She could have come with hundreds and not sufficed.

Bless [livejournal.com profile] isiscolo's cotton socks for bringing her laptop so I can keep up and post. Sorry, [livejournal.com profile] legomymalfoy for the spam. Indulge me, for I am of a certain age.

*hugs*

I'm delighted that you're having a good time! Really. I admit to some seriously wistful feelings about having missed my chance to meet you, but perhaps there'll be another time or something. And I'm looking forward to the pictures, too! (I did see Isis' other pics, but I meant of you in particular!) ♥ Enjoy the rest!

Oh, you really should make the effort to come to Lumos in Vegas! I had way more fun than I imagined.

[identity profile] silentauror.livejournal.com 2005-10-15 10:13 pm (UTC)(link)
We'll see - it's extremely likely that I'll be engrossed in a summer opera program by then, though. :( I really want to!

And now I have seen your pic, too - how very glamorous you and Isis looked! :)

So nice not to be an outlier. Hey, have a drink on me.

Plbbbbbbbt! Where's the quote I need?

Oh yeah... "Well the Shrieking Shack's rather good, and Zonko's Joke Shop is frankly dangerous, but really, Hogsmeade isn't all it's cracked up to be." P. Weasley to H. Potter, PoA (from memory so forgive the misquote)

Oh. And it's raining here, too.

So I know this is a poor second, but I will tell you that even though you're not here, I've heard your name mentioned so many times in just a few days - you are definitely here in people's minds. And all in good ways, too, in case you were wondering!

[identity profile] icarusancalion.livejournal.com 2005-10-09 04:38 am (UTC)(link)
Oh you sweetheart. That's even better than being there (this way I don't have to be nervous and people don't look so surprised when they meet me). Tell people I said hi, and... maybe next year.

It's so great that you're having fun! Glad to have your reports!

[identity profile] accioslash.livejournal.com 2005-10-09 03:22 am (UTC)(link)
I'm glad everyone seems to be having a great time and I love hearing about it. I was especially interested to hear that there are HP fans in their 40's other than just the handful I know about.

I've seen a few pictures, but not nearly enough. I'm hoping more people will post them after they get home. Hugs to Isis for posting pics with LJ names. While you guys were squeeing in person, I was at home squeeing over pictures, "Oh, wow. She's on my f-list!"

Enjoy the con for the rest of us!

(eek...look how behind I got in answering my comments - sorry).

There were tons of writers and fans in their 40's. Maybe it was a bit self-selecting, because of the cost of travel and hotels and all, but still, I always assumed that those LJ friends whose ages I didn't know were young. But no! We are not! I even discovered someone who was in her 50's who I knew of since my early fandom days. I thought she was in her 20's. That's because we have such interesting minds. We just grow wiser.

[identity profile] snowqueenofhoth.livejournal.com 2005-10-09 05:11 am (UTC)(link)
Funny, I was feeling the same "outlierness" for being so young. At 21, I feel like I'm the lower limit. At first, it was like being an immature little kid at the adult dinner party. But it's all good, now. Everyone's been so fabulously wonderful, I got over the weirdness pretty quick. So excited to be t/here. :D Having an awesome time!

[identity profile] geoviki.livejournal.com 2005-10-15 03:12 pm (UTC)(link)
I met such a broad range of ages, really. I even met a girl of 12, there with her family. (and no, we didn't talk about my slash button, thank God).

It was hard to be all squeeful and not think about how that comes across to those who couldn't be there. And I wished everyone could have been there.

[identity profile] lagreyeyes.livejournal.com 2005-10-09 08:15 am (UTC)(link)
I, too, am "of a certain age". We rock, doll!

Be sure to report on various tidbits.

[identity profile] geoviki.livejournal.com 2005-10-15 03:14 pm (UTC)(link)
We rock and we also rule! It was so good to see that.

[identity profile] mayflo.livejournal.com 2005-10-09 09:21 pm (UTC)(link)
*woe* wish i was there *sooo envious*

[identity profile] geoviki.livejournal.com 2005-10-15 03:17 pm (UTC)(link)
You should think about coming to Lumos in Las Vegas next July. I didn't mention it, but there was a large group of artists in Salem, too, and they tend to all be in their 20's. [livejournal.com profile] waccawheels came from Japan (I think). And they all hung around together and drew art together and were all quite remarkable. Did you see photos of them and scans of their pictures?

[identity profile] mayflo.livejournal.com 2005-10-18 01:52 pm (UTC)(link)
Will there be as many fanartists as in Salem there, too? Is the con big? Are you going? I saw the pics, looks like they've got so much fun *envies*

It'll depend on how I'll be doing then, financially speaking :P

[identity profile] amelia-eve.livejournal.com 2005-10-11 10:04 am (UTC)(link)
I loved meeting you at TWH. Friending!

[identity profile] geoviki.livejournal.com 2005-10-15 03:17 pm (UTC)(link)
Ditto! And ditto.

[identity profile] mijan.livejournal.com 2005-10-11 07:59 pm (UTC)(link)
SQUEEEEE! *GLOMP*
You know, thinking back, I keep asking myself if I'd met you before... you seemed SO familiar! But in a good way! Either way, TWH was awesome, and you were awesome, and everyone was awesome... *clings* Why couldn't I keep everyone here? *pouts* But it was great to meet you. Did you upload any pics?

[identity profile] geoviki.livejournal.com 2005-10-15 03:19 pm (UTC)(link)
Not yet - I have an old-fashioned camera and have to take the film in and then scan the suckers. But lots of other people took photos.

You have more energy than a nuclear reactor! And yes, I agree about the awesomeness of it all.

[identity profile] mijan.livejournal.com 2005-10-15 06:49 pm (UTC)(link)
Hmmm, me? Energetic? Nah. *giggles* It was all just very awesome.

And yes, I've been seeing the pictures all over the place. It's great. :D
