Reading fanfic on the Kindle!
Dec. 8th, 2010 08:29 pmI mentioned in passing that I bought a Kindle recently. I hadn't paid any attention to the hoopla re: ereaders at all until I went to visit
meri_oddities a while back and she let me borrow hers to read fanfic on. Whoa, babe! I was hooked. Mostly because I sit here at the ol' computer for hours at a time, using very bad posture until I remember and correct myself, and it's getting old. As am I. But little did I know that it's easy-peasy to simply email .doc, .html, .pdf, and other simple formats to my Kindle and read them easily anywhere I like! As a matter of fact, the Archive of Our Own has a one-button function to download a story in .gobi format, which is quasi-native to the Kindle. Two steps and I'm reading porn quality fiction!
No, that was a cheap laugh, 'cuz it really is quality fiction. Here are two new HP stories I really loved:
I got this rec from
schemingreader. The story is called Railway Lands by maelipstick. It's a terrific plotty hurt-comfort H/D chapter fic. I haven't read one like this in a while - this Draco is not tame in any way, and the plot twist is unique in my reading. Plus, so British! I've been reading it as chapters but now it's finished, yay!
The other one is a brand new hd holidays story, The Waters Know Their Own. The author's currently anonymous, but I might know who it is based on 1) quality, 2) the title, and 3) a single unique word. This one's H/D established fic, and the characterizations are terrific and subtle, including the side characters, Pansy and Theodore. Very nice!
And
pir8fancier pointed out a new helenish fic, this one a ST:Reboot story (which I don't even follow much), Your First Time Should Be Special. I have always adored her stories and raced off to read it - it doesn't disappoint!
