Hikaru, my new computer
Feb. 26th, 2009 06:27 pmSo I am doing my best to stimulate the economy. I just bought a new PC because I actually filled up my hard drive on the old one. Yeah, imagine that. I didn't when I bought it 5 years ago. So you can bet I got a ginormous drive this time around. Watch this space in 5 years....Bet I'll be all a-whine over lack of space.
So being the anal person that you know me to be, I made a formal list of all the programs I need to move. You know what? I think it was easier to pack up and move my household than to do this!
To top it off, some asshat with a backhoe killed the intarwebs in Denver yesterday, and today's response is sluggish to say the least. Some repairmen used duct tape and spit, I'm sure. So I'm working side by side with two systems, and neither one is setting the world on fire for speed.
Stimulus-enhancement or no, it's not the best time to buy a PC (well, except for the great sales, yay!). Since the new year, the 64-bit systems have taken over as far as sales go, but not as far as programs go. So it's a real crapshoot whether or not some of the programs I depend on will actually work on my new system. I was faced with the dilemma of buying a system that would be obsolete sooner than later, or else go with the new system and wait for the programmers to get their collective shit together.
And I'm now running Vista, which is another issue. Windows 7 (aka "Vista without the bugs or the memory hogging") isn't slated to appear until next January, and rumours are swirling over the notion that you'll get a free upgrade if you wait until July to buy your Vista OS. So, missed that.
I named my new system "Hikaru". About 2 of you will get the reference (see icon).
In other news, I'm soooclose to getting out my desk scissors and chopping off my hair, which is hanging in my eyes. I'm about 3 weeks overdue for a haircut, which will happen tomorrow! W00t!
