Max was clearly born to be someone's acolyte, having descended from a long line of junior-grade sycophants, and he made Jeremy feel he could do no wrong. At the time Daniel hadn't made a fuss, since Max was a proclaimed celibate in the tradition, he liked to claim, of his hero Morrissey. Daniel didn't believe that reason for a moment; it was obvious that no one on this planet, at least, would be caught dead in Maxwell's bedroom, his back seat, or even a pitch-black alley — for any price.
