Leviosa was wonderful

I waffled a whole week after Leviosa before posting this because I wanted to make my post as good as the con was for me.  Of course, that led to me feeling like I couldn't do it proper justice, which means I was in danger of not posting at all.  Seems like that's what's happened to me posting here: I want it to be thorough, engaging, and clever, and I don't feel like I can do it right now, maybe later, and so I end up saying nothing.

So I'll just do the thing now and it'll be fine.

Fine, I say.

I was in exactly the right frame of mind to go to Leviosa with my dearest [livejournal.com profile] cordelia_v and [livejournal.com profile] pir8fancier It had been (OMG, just checked dates) 4 years since Ascendio in Orlando, and I spent a whole lot more time there hanging with friends at the parks and very little time at the con.  This time around, though, I was feeling very nostalgic and craving the people I used to see yearly.  And I wasn't disappointed at all.   It was such a joy to wander through the ornate halls and run into so many of you who go waaay back to The Witching Hour and those of you who came later.  Words can't describe that feeling of seeing you all: [livejournal.com profile] novembersnow , [livejournal.com profile] dementordelta , [livejournal.com profile] furiosity , [livejournal.com profile] femmequixotic , [livejournal.com profile] sassy_cissa , [livejournal.com profile] alisanne , [livejournal.com profile] gatewaygirl , [livejournal.com profile] rurounihime , [livejournal.com profile] dysonrules , [livejournal.com profile] snottygrrl , [livejournal.com profile] emmagrant01 , [livejournal.com profile] noeon , [livejournal.com profile] oldenuf2nb , [livejournal.com profile] romaine24 , [livejournal.com profile] sesheta_66 , [livejournal.com profile] bookshop , [livejournal.com profile] red_rahl and [livejournal.com profile] heidi8, I was especially excited to meet a writer who's been in fandom longer than me, even, who I never thought I'd meet at a con: [livejournal.com profile] florahart.  I know I'm missing names, and I apologize for that.  I also got to meet some new (to me) writers/artists/reccers, like [livejournal.com profile] dicta_contrion , [livejournal.com profile] gracerene , [livejournal.com profile] vaysh , [livejournal.com profile] oceaxe, [livejournal.com profile] khalulu , [livejournal.com profile] piratesmile331 , and [livejournal.com profile] lilyseyes to name only some of them.  So cool!

And yet, I kept scanning the halls for those faces I used to see at cons, too.  Let me just say that if you've been there in the past, you were thought of fondly and spoken of frequently in many warm conversations.

The panels were great, I wish we'd had a couple of weeks together to fit it all in.  I was part of the H/D panel with femme, oldenuf2nb, sassy_cissa, pir8fancier, grace rene, and dicta, and I'm so glad femme asked me to be on it.  Between the 2 hours we spent with the audience and the hour plus we'd spent the night before preparing for it, I felt like the fandom is thriving and more importantly, is in great hands.  And I'm even gonna participate in tumblr after dicta and grace presented such a compelling case for doing it.

And I danced my ass off at the ball, as usual.

I really regret having to leave on Sunday morning.  Damn Frontier Airlines, is all I can say, now that they make it prohibitively expensive to change anything.  I was burning off points with them, and I'm done.

When I got back to Denver, it was hotter here (101) than it was in Vegas.  I miss you all greatly and I'm reading more HP fanfic now than I have in several years.  And I'm off to comment on it now.

It was so wonderful to see you again!! If you ever find yourself in my general corner of the world again, give me a holler. :)))

[identity profile] geoviki.livejournal.com 2016-07-18 01:17 am (UTC)(link)
Well, the family is heavily leaning again to your area for our 2018 reunion, so I definitely will give you a heads up for that. Thanks for keeping me company for lunch (that turned out to be dinner as well!)

Yay. I am always in favor of upstate New York for everybody's gatherings. ;)

And it is always a pleasure being in your company. :D It was great to have some time to just sit down and catch up with you. ♥

[identity profile] sassy-cissa.livejournal.com 2016-07-17 09:08 pm (UTC)(link)
It was so good to see you again and I really loved being on the H/D panel with you and everyone else. ♥

Hope to see more of you around. :D

[identity profile] geoviki.livejournal.com 2016-07-18 01:18 am (UTC)(link)
I have to say, that panel was one of the best I've been on. Prepping ahead of time really does pay off, who knew? And I enjoyed the hell out of seeing you again. *mwah!*

[identity profile] oceaxe.livejournal.com 2016-07-17 09:16 pm (UTC)(link)
It was such an honor to meet you and have a conversation at the H/D meetup. I know I fangirled all over you (as is my wont) but I hope you weren't too creeped out or dismayed!

It was my first convention and I was completely overwhelmed by all the writing talent concentrated in one room! Amazing!

[identity profile] geoviki.livejournal.com 2016-07-18 01:20 am (UTC)(link)
Believe me, I've been on the other side of that, and there were people at this con I felt the same way about! But you soon realized that I'm just folk. It was really a joy to meet you.

[identity profile] alisanne.livejournal.com 2016-07-17 09:18 pm (UTC)(link)
It was fabulous to see you again!
Maybe we need to see you more often than every 4 years? ;)

[identity profile] geoviki.livejournal.com 2016-07-18 01:21 am (UTC)(link)
I'll definitely be there in 2 years, wherever "there" is. It was nice to be able to spend more time with you this go-round, and to see you're doing so well.
vaysh: Potter? (a_Potter?)

It was so amazing to meet you in person. I wish we had had more time to talk and hang out but no matter time constraints: it's awesome to know how you look and speak and connect that to your gorgeous fics. ♥

[identity profile] geoviki.livejournal.com 2016-07-18 01:23 am (UTC)(link)
I really had hoped to spend more time getting to know you. I could tell we were much alike (maybe it's my German heritage?) I'm making up for the loss by trying to read a lot of your fics now that I'm home (comments coming soon, but I'm loving them).

Why did the weekend fly by? I remember a lot of wine...and goldfish.

[identity profile] oldenuf2nb.livejournal.com 2016-07-17 10:07 pm (UTC)(link)
It was awesome to see you again, too. We've all aged really well, haven't we? Lol. ((((hugs))))

[identity profile] geoviki.livejournal.com 2016-07-18 01:26 am (UTC)(link)
I have to say, even though I missed seeing a lot of the old faces, it did give me time to spend more energy with people I'd always wanted to get to know better. You were one of the names on top of my list. I really enjoyed panelling with you, and winning your great artwork!

[identity profile] furiosity.livejournal.com 2016-07-17 10:40 pm (UTC)(link)
always a pleasure to see youuuuu~! ♥

[identity profile] geoviki.livejournal.com 2016-07-18 01:27 am (UTC)(link)
Ditto! You'd posted a while ago that you'd planned on coming, but until I ran into you in the hall I wasn't sure to get my hopes up or not.

[identity profile] meri-oddities.livejournal.com 2016-07-17 10:59 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm so sad I missed you. I hope that we do something next year!! I heard there was talk of another one in 2 years. I'm on for that. ;-)

[identity profile] geoviki.livejournal.com 2016-07-18 01:29 am (UTC)(link)
We will definitely do something next year, it's our thing and you can't get rid of us easily now. We all missed you really hard, you know. You'd have liked the spa. We rarely went outdoors, and I never left the resort at all.

[identity profile] meri-oddities.livejournal.com 2016-07-18 09:30 am (UTC)(link)
Next year for sure!! I am missing all of you pretty hard right now. ::hugs you::

I couldn't make it this time and I miss you!!!!!!! ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥

[identity profile] geoviki.livejournal.com 2016-07-20 01:57 am (UTC)(link)
I know you'd posted that you just couldn't make it this time, but I kept looking for you and hoping you'd been able to make it after all. You were with many of us in spirit (and in conversation) that's for sure.

[identity profile] heidi8.livejournal.com 2016-07-18 03:40 am (UTC)(link)
What a fantastic weekend - I loved the old-school fandomyness of it and seeing so many fantastic people - I had to leave relatively early on Sunday too (BOOO) but I hope there's going to be another similar event sometime next year or in 2018!

xoxox

[identity profile] geoviki.livejournal.com 2016-07-20 01:58 am (UTC)(link)
I wondered what it was like for you this time, hopefully with a lot less stress and hopefully more free time. I caught you checking in for your massage on my way out of the spa!

[identity profile] legionseaglelj.livejournal.com 2016-07-18 05:27 am (UTC)(link)
Sorry I missed it - it sounds fabulous.

[identity profile] geoviki.livejournal.com 2016-07-20 02:04 am (UTC)(link)
I really wish you'd been there! cordelia_v did a session on Sherlock (there were several on other fandoms as well) and even though I was mainly there because it was cordelia_v and all, I still learned a lot. There was a mellow and very, very knowledgeable group of fans there who knew all of the Sherlockian incarnations, no matter how obscure.

Also, my part of the H/D panel was to introduce the early days to the audience, and I definitely could have tapped your brain and experience for that part. I focused on the years 2000-2003 even though I arrived myself in 2003. Vaysh (I can't seem to do the lj-name style in the comments any more, but you get the idea she's on LJ) suggested I write it up for fanlore, so I will. Can you take a look when I'm writing and add things too? Only if you want and it interests you, of course.

[identity profile] dicta-contrion.livejournal.com 2016-07-18 05:52 pm (UTC)(link)
It was so amazing to meet you!! To put a face to the name of this author I've admired for so long, and then to have you be so warm and welcoming and encouraging - it meant really a lot. And VERY much with you in wishing we'd had two weeks!! Next time I might have to request a time-turner with my badge.

[identity profile] geoviki.livejournal.com 2016-07-20 02:07 am (UTC)(link)
I have you to thank for getting me heated up about fandom again, so meeting you meant a lot to me too. Plus tumblr! I'm doing it! It's great to know fandom's still active, more mellow, and in great hands.

[identity profile] waterbird.livejournal.com 2016-07-19 07:06 pm (UTC)(link)
Lovely to hear from you. Sounds like such great fun. I'm feeling very nostalgic for fandom -- I see the play next week, and am expecting to feel another surge of HP love afterwards.

[identity profile] geoviki.livejournal.com 2016-07-20 02:08 am (UTC)(link)
You're going to see the play?! Word in the con halls says that those who have seen it enjoy it enormously. I figure it'll be 2030 before I get the chance...

[identity profile] amanuensis1.livejournal.com 2016-07-20 12:32 am (UTC)(link)
It sounds fantastic as usual--I miss you guys! *smooches*

[identity profile] geoviki.livejournal.com 2016-07-20 02:10 am (UTC)(link)
Oh, Amy, you were one of the faces I missed the most. Dancing at the ball is just not the same when you're not there doing the Time Warp (Again). Believe me, we spoke of you so often that if you'd been a demon you'd have been forced to appear.

[identity profile] amanuensis1.livejournal.com 2016-07-21 11:34 pm (UTC)(link)
*laughs and cries at the same time* Now THAT is a thing that makes my whole week, knowing that. *hugs you hard*

[identity profile] rexedipus.livejournal.com 2016-10-08 05:43 am (UTC)(link)
Of course that led to me feeling like I couldn't do it proper justice which means I was in danger

You were in my dream last night (though like most of my dreams, the details are vague)! I know this post is more than a year old now, but I'm in a similarly nostalgic place right now. Maybe because I'm reading Philosopher's Stone with my six(!)-year-old and am very much feeling the HP love all over again. And missing the old days and so many of the familiar names and faces from fandom. I hope you are well. <3
