Inauguration

What a great day.

I watched the events from my office. Like a kajillion other people, I tried to watch the live stream on internet MSNBC, which froze at critical moments. Panicked, I hauled out my old Sony radio and tuned in to the words while watching a choppy video version of the speech. Yes, I got weepy, several times.

Tom Brokaw obliquely pointed out the resemblance between Dick Cheney in his wheelchair and Dr. Strangelove, heh. (Dick apparently messed up his back yesterday moving boxes.)

The photos of W and Cheney in the lobby of our government building were gone this morning before we got there. ETA: The official new pictures are still not there, but someone put up a small version of the Shepard Fairey "Yes We Can" one where they will go.

They didn't play this, but they could have: America the Beautiful - Ray Charles

Dick as Dr. Strangelove...

Hey, I called it before Tom! Ha!

What a fantastic day. :-)

I laughed at the subtle way he planted that image in my head - he said something like, "Dick Cheney is probably unhappy that some pundits will remark on the resemblance to Dr. Strangelove." Har-har!

Ahaha, WAS it Tom Brokaw that was making the Strangelove comments? Those were a pretty big deal in my house and got repeated all day whenever Cheney was onscreen but we didn't know who had said it. I think it was also him that was talking about Obama making out with one of their (male) news correspondents who was at the parade.

Yeah, it was ol' Tom. Very coyly, mind you, but the image was clear from then on.

Hmmm, I missed the 'make out' remark!

Oh lord! Dick Stangelove is quite brilliant!

I loved it!

That's just a gorgeous version of the song. Thanks for sharing it. :)

I'm glad you enjoyed it.

It was a wonderful day. I'm still jazzed. What a fine speech Obama made. It feels good to actually be happy about the person who is president. I get tired of people yakking about Michelle's outfits. I mean, I guess people have to talk about something and it's harmless, but I thought she was beautiful, even if I wouldn't have worn those clothes myself.

And yeah, Dick Cheney as Dr. Strangelove was just too perfect. All I can say is good riddance to Bush and all his cronies. Don't let the White House door hit ya on the fanny on the way out.

Oh, me too. When I read CNN, I already notice the difference in the headlines and it makes me feel soooo goooood!

Hey, I even loved Aretha Franklin's hat.
