A wineless whine - and gifts!

A lovely gift story from [livejournal.com profile] tipgardner really cheered me today: One Beautiful Thing, a short, Daniel-centric ficlet. Thanks so much, sweetie. I so needed that today.

I don't remember if I linked to this great art by [livejournal.com profile] mayflo, Lamborghini Diabolo. I want that car! And that hood ornament! I appreciate all the hard work you did for me, Hannah, and thanks. (sorry I'm late; I think you were taking your little rest when I was going to point it out before).

Thing I learned today: Neil Gaiman's first published book was a bio of Duran Duran. So how bad is beginning one's writing career with fanfic, I ask you?

I needed cheering. My body is behaving badly. I've developed a virus whose main characteristic is pain. To be more accurate, it causes the nerve to desperately shoot out every one of its signals with no true provocation, like a nervous schoolboy under teacher scrutiny who rattles off every State Capital in his memory. Deep throbbing pain? Check. Burning surficial pain? Yep. The sudden stabbing pain that causes one to cry out? Got it. I finally gave in to the lure of codeine. No hope of a quick resolution. If I get snippy in the next couple of weeks, bear with me. I'm short of sleep and for part of last night dreamed I was under Cruciatus. AK me now!

Oh, sweetie! *sends massive hugs* God, I hope you feel better soon. *hugs more*

*pets you*

Feel better soon.

*hugs gently*

Wasn't Tip's story lovely?

I'm not sure how cheery a lurker I can be, but I have to say that from experience, your virus is sounding suspiciously like a shingles variant. Very nasty if so, and regardless, if it's making you miserable, then this is BAD.

You do have to wonder how it would look on the inside of a book jacket...

.... lives in .... and first became interested in writing through her involvement in movie fandom, including several years writing highly acclaimed Harry Potter slash fiction for an enthusiastic internet audience.

:D

Much love to you!! Your recent rec postings have kept me busy reading fic I'd never read. Thank you. I have many more to go.

*sends something good to you from my medicine cabinet*

[identity profile] geoviki.livejournal.com 2005-12-01 05:17 am (UTC)(link)
Got it in one! Yep, shingles. In a very bad place to get them. I've got the half-effective drug, but there's not a lot that can be done.

[identity profile] geoviki.livejournal.com 2005-12-01 05:18 am (UTC)(link)
Thanks! I just have to wait it out - no one's died from it. They just wish they did. (joke, really!)

[identity profile] geoviki.livejournal.com 2005-12-01 05:19 am (UTC)(link)
*rolls over, leg flails in air*

Thanks. *icon love!*

Thank you so much. This too shall pass, they tell me.

I'm glad to hear I could point out some great stories. These authors just leave me in awe! And the variety of stories that come from the same source just boggles my mind.

Sounds like you've got Shingles. It is KILLER PAIN.

[identity profile] kamion.livejournal.com 2005-12-01 06:34 am (UTC)(link)
I think you got world wide permission to be bitchy.
surely when it released some of the pain.

Why it's always the nice people that get hurt,
can't you mail your virus to Cheney or Rumpsfeld or so, they are definitely NOT nice.

[identity profile] sapphsmum.livejournal.com 2005-12-01 08:26 am (UTC)(link)
Sorry to here you're suffering with shingles. I had it about 10 years ago and of all the things I've been through it is one of one of the most painful!

So I send gentle hugs and hope you get over it soon.

Christina

*urk* Shingles is dreadful from what I hear...but it *does* end.

I'd send a hug but the last thing you need right now is to be touched...mental hug?

It's apparently a street sign in Honolulu. A friend from another community posted a bunch of photos of somebody's art project where they had made a bunch of authentic looking street signs with more personal sayings. I just loved this one and got his permission to use the pic.

I wrap you in a warm blanket and bring you hot tea with a dash of pepper for excitement.

Ack, I'm sorry to hear that - I hope you get better soon!

Goes out to bookcase and pulls out Duran Duran collection... OMG... I never realised... Neil is way cooler than I always thought. Rock on.

Sorry to hear that you aren't well. There is nothing in the world worse than feeling sick. I hope it goes away quickly, as those dreams sound nasty.

Amazingly enough, a few days later, the medication is actually working! Kind of an inverse placebo effect - but boy am I happy about it.

[identity profile] geoviki.livejournal.com 2005-12-04 03:02 am (UTC)(link)
Things are going much better for me today - the pain has faded, the pills are working, and all's right with the world. Thanks for your concern.

[identity profile] geoviki.livejournal.com 2005-12-04 03:03 am (UTC)(link)
I was lucky enough to recognize what was happening, so I hightailed it to the docs and got the pills, which are actually working! So yay for the pills!

[identity profile] geoviki.livejournal.com 2005-12-04 03:04 am (UTC)(link)
A couple of days later, it's actually fading away, because I got the magic drug right away. You never saw anyone grab the next doc appt so fast - from in bed and in pajamas to walking into the office in 20 minutes flat!

[identity profile] geoviki.livejournal.com 2005-12-04 03:04 am (UTC)(link)
I appreciate the virtual tea. Thank you.

[identity profile] geoviki.livejournal.com 2005-12-04 03:06 am (UTC)(link)
And surprisingly, I am! I had no optimism, but lucky for me, the pills don't need optimism to work.

I liked your post about the Xmas card thing. I never get mine out, even though my list is pretty short, and I wasn't going to burden anyone else with the task. It's my little gift to fandom!

[identity profile] geoviki.livejournal.com 2005-12-04 03:07 am (UTC)(link)
Nothing like codeine! Luckily I only had to take it once - the whole mess is going away rather quickly, leaving me feeling a bit overdramatic. But it was pretty awful, and I expected it to go on and on and on... Hey, I'm not complaining, though.

[identity profile] geoviki.livejournal.com 2005-12-04 03:11 am (UTC)(link)
Neil is not only way cooler, he's way cooler in so many directions. This week, I'm reading about the obscure details he added to The Sandman series. I'm totally impressed.

I'm recovering quickly, too, and am happy 'bout that, as you can imagine!

Not that I think I'll have a writing career, outside fanfic, but that's still good to know!

I'm sorry to hear about your pain! And, actually, the first thing I was told in clinical science is that the only thing doctors can definitely cure is infections ... so, I'm sending you good, Hogswatchy, vibes instead! ♥
