Got androgyny?

RL is kicking ass and taking names right now. My daughter suddenly found an apartment on Monday and moved out of our house this weekend (with a lot of beast-of-burden help from the 'rents). My son's football team is in the state playoffs (and is winning so far; they're in the final 4), and I've been freezing my ass/arse off on Friday nights watching him. Baskteball season is starting up and I'm on the booster club board. And so on...

Do I post anything worthwhile in this drive-by? No, I do not. I owe everyone post replies and letters and emails. I'm being the worst friend. Please forgive me.

Okay, so the reason most of us are friends here is that we like to see gay men together. Yes we do. Well, some of you actually are gay men - we like you as yourselves, of course. But this makes us one flavor of unique. (I read recently that the question is not whether or not any of us are geeks, it's what kind of geeks we are.) And in this elite subset, I've discovered I actually like very androgynous fantasy men (my RL men - husband and son - are not at all androgynous, except I haven't quite worked out why all of the football team is now holding hands in their huddle. Either they are in support of revoking Prop 8 or they are damned cold. Oh, it's bonding, I was just informed.) This puts me in a unique sub-subset. Wanna join me? If you like Japanese men, it's even better.

At any rate, through reading my past LJ posts you all have been hammered over the head introduced to Yoshiki, the multi-talented pianist/drummer of X Japan. (see icon). And when I was avoiding reality on Friday, I came across these photos. These jaw-dropping photos. My writerly brain is trying to imagine what the hell is going on in this scene.

Yoshiki is the one in leather shorts and lace nylons. Does anyone know who the other fellow is in the uniform? ETA: It's Sakurai Atsushi from Buck-Tick, [livejournal.com profile] kyuuketsukirui tells me.

Click on the pix to enlarge. Um, you know what I mean.

I like men who look like men. Like your husband. :-)

The first picture says something about Buck-Tick and X, so I'm guessing the guy is someone (probably the vocalist, Sakurai Atsushi) from Buck-Tick.

And yours, of course. :D

I don't like these fantasy androgynous men for myself - the idea of me with them gives me the shivers, to be honest. Just...ick. I like them with each other, or with, well, guys with long hair and snappy uniforms. Heh.

In later years, Yoshiki did get a little less femme (see icon). And now he has a beautiful beard girlfriend.

Thank you! I was hoping you'd know something about my mystery man.

Hey, I know enough katakana now to be able to tell the staff at Tokyo Joe's that they'd put the Pepsi sign on the machine backwards. But that's about it.

*scurries off to check him out*

Oh, hell yeah! That's him, all right. *swoons*

Yay! :)

I think we've had this argument before - you're not into gay men per se, just the idea of two men together. In most slash fic, the characters aren't gay at all, just sleeping with someone of the same gender...

I don't know how familiar you are with figure skating, but Johnny Weir (http://www.figureskatersonline.com/johnnyweir/index.html) (3 time US Champion)! In case you're not familiar with him, he's pretty in an androgynous way and skates gorgeously.

His "biseinen" qualities are likely what makes him as popular as he is in Japan:

This is his signature program:

Weir has been my obsession for over a year now. In terms of the androgyny thing: he never seemed to gave a damn about gender conventions. He just does his own thing. I'm commenting because I think you might really like him too (if you don't know about him already).

And thanks for the Yoshiki introduction! He intrigues me. I'll definitely check him out. (:

'I'm sure I had it here a minute ago, Officer.' (breathily)

Number 5 does my head in.

...No. I don't get it with androgyny. I like my men all burly and strong, secretly weeping inside.

[identity profile] geoviki.livejournal.com 2008-11-17 04:32 pm (UTC)(link)
No, I don't think we've had this discussion, but I am intrigued as to what you mean, exactly. Is this the idea of "I'm not gay, I just like you" that fanfic is full of? I don't go for that much. I do like 'first time' but I like that light to go on in character's heads - 'oh, I like men. Huh, who'da thought?' Which is different from, 'I'm just gay for Draco.' So I thought I was into gay men, but maybe I don't really understand it all that well. I mean, I know I don't understand why this is so, and when people post about the psychology of it all, I glaze over and don't think it can be worked out too easily. I'm not being very clear; can you tell I just woke up?

I like the chap with the long black hair. Mmmmmmmm! I also like that Myarvi(?) chappie: such an animated face and very talented.

[identity profile] geoviki.livejournal.com 2008-11-18 12:33 am (UTC)(link)
Well, you might start with this one, hahahaha...

Or there's emo!Yoshiki:

There are quite a few vids of him on YouTube, as you might expect.

And thank you for the lovliness that is Johnny Weir! I do like male ice skaters but I haven't kept up in recent years at all. Yay! New talent!

[identity profile] geoviki.livejournal.com 2008-11-18 12:37 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, I decided I can't explain it either, but that's okay. I used to hide my fascination for it, but now I'm out 'n' proud about my androgynous lurrve. Heh.

[identity profile] geoviki.livejournal.com 2008-11-18 12:40 am (UTC)(link)
I'm trying my hardest to pull more of my friends into the J-Rock love. Miyavi is still my fav, I think, because he is truly talented as well as 'kawaii' (cute). Yoshiki is a huge drama queen, which is always entertaining. Hey, he even is friends with Paris Hilton! And this new guy, Atsushi, bears more investigation. Mmmmmm.

[identity profile] geoviki.livejournal.com 2008-11-18 12:41 am (UTC)(link)
I'm still trying to decide exactly what the difference is, but I see you got it right away. Per se. Hahahaa!

[identity profile] mayflo.livejournal.com 2008-11-20 12:10 am (UTC)(link)
It's actually freaky to walk alongside a prettier man than yourself o_O (sorry for butting in) but I totally agree with you on this one. I love drawing them, watching them do naughty things *tee hee* but not for me. I don't like macho men either, but totally visual-kei's are also not very flattering to be with :P

So, Yoshiki does have a girlfriend??

[identity profile] mayflo.livejournal.com 2008-11-20 12:12 am (UTC)(link)
Oh drat, I forgot to use my Visual-kei icon! XD One of the few I have *g*

[identity profile] geoviki.livejournal.com 2008-11-20 04:45 am (UTC)(link)
Rumoured girlfriend:

http://listentheworld.wordpress.com/2008/08/14/yoshiki-and-julia-voth-are-engaged-to-be-married-within-the-year/

Someone oughta tell her that her boyfriend is gay gay gay gay gay! Maybe she doesn't mind, though. ;-)

[identity profile] geoviki.livejournal.com 2008-11-20 04:46 am (UTC)(link)
I used the concept but made my own with my own fav guys (slower, so we can enjoy them). I tried to find out who originated yours but never did.

[identity profile] mayflo.livejournal.com 2008-11-20 03:44 pm (UTC)(link)
Hee, maybe she's like us, only she rather wants to be first hand, unlike us, worshiping from afar.
Must be that voyeur kink, or something :9
