Got androgyny?
RL is kicking ass and taking names right now. My daughter suddenly found an apartment on Monday and moved out of our house this weekend (with a lot of beast-of-burden help from the 'rents). My son's football team is in the state playoffs (and is winning so far; they're in the final 4), and I've been freezing my ass/arse off on Friday nights watching him. Baskteball season is starting up and I'm on the booster club board. And so on...
Do I post anything worthwhile in this drive-by? No, I do not. I owe everyone post replies and letters and emails. I'm being the worst friend. Please forgive me.
Okay, so the reason most of us are friends here is that we like to see gay men together. Yes we do. Well, some of you actually are gay men - we like you as yourselves, of course. But this makes us one flavor of unique. (I read recently that the question is not whether or not any of us are geeks, it's what kind of geeks we are.) And in this elite subset, I've discovered I actually like very androgynous fantasy men (my RL men - husband and son - are not at all androgynous, except I haven't quite worked out why all of the football team is now holding hands in their huddle. Either they are in support of revoking Prop 8 or they are damned cold. Oh, it's bonding, I was just informed.) This puts me in a unique sub-subset. Wanna join me? If you like Japanese men, it's even better.
At any rate, through reading my past LJ posts you all have beenhammered over the head introduced to Yoshiki, the multi-talented pianist/drummer of X Japan. (see icon). And when I was avoiding reality on Friday, I came across these photos. These jaw-dropping photos. My writerly brain is trying to imagine what the hell is going on in this scene.
Yoshiki is the one in leather shorts and lace nylons. Does anyone know who the other fellow is in the uniform? ETA: It's Sakurai Atsushi from Buck-Tick,
kyuuketsukirui tells me.

I don't like these fantasy androgynous men for myself - the idea of me with them gives me the shivers, to be honest. Just...ick. I like them with each other, or with, well, guys with long hair and snappy uniforms. Heh.
In later years, Yoshiki did get a little less femme (see icon). And now he has a beautiful

Hey, I know enough katakana now to be able to tell the staff at Tokyo Joe's that they'd put the Pepsi sign on the machine backwards. But that's about it.
*scurries off to check him out*

His "biseinen" qualities are likely what makes him as popular as he is in Japan:
This is his signature program:
Weir has been my obsession for over a year now. In terms of the androgyny thing: he never seemed to gave a damn about gender conventions. He just does his own thing. I'm commenting because I think you might really like him too (if you don't know about him already).
And thanks for the Yoshiki introduction! He intrigues me. I'll definitely check him out. (:

Number 5 does my head in.
...No. I don't get it with androgyny. I like my men all burly and strong, secretly weeping inside.

Or there's emo!Yoshiki:
There are quite a few vids of him on YouTube, as you might expect.
And thank you for the lovliness that is Johnny Weir! I do like male ice skaters but I haven't kept up in recent years at all. Yay! New talent!

Someone oughta tell her that her boyfriend is gay gay gay gay gay! Maybe she doesn't mind, though. ;-)
