Concert meme

From [livejournal.com profile] bethbethbeth, and if you do it, go back to hers for all the questions.

- What was your first concert?
The Beatles, Olympia Arena, Detroit, 1964. Not that we could actually hear the music over the insane screaming. It was more like a religious revival devolved into mass hysteria than a concert.

- What was the last concert you attended?
Last Thursday we went to see Larry Coryell (a jazz guitarist) at the Mt. Vernon Country Club. The last big concert was in June – The Cure at Red Rocks.

- Who was the best band to see live?
Bruce Springsteen (Denver, 1979). But the Jonny Lang concert last year was excellent as well. Oh, and Tim O'Brien is fairly amazing in concert.

- What was your LIFE CHANGING concert you attended?
Bob Dylan and the Band, Ann Arbor, Crysler Arena, 1974.

- Have you ever gotten anything from a band? Backstage passes to see The Grateful Dead in 1979 at Red Rocks (a roomate was a friend of the sound guy). And since there is no backstage at Red Rocks, I sat on one of the rocks onstage.

- Who was the worst band to see live? I agree with Bethbethbeth, probably Harry and the Potters. Or whoever that was who opened for The Cure.

- How long was the longest concert you've attended? I went to an all-day fest in 1975 at EMU, Ypsilanti, Michigan, where there was a triple bill of someone I forget, Peter Frampton, and Santana.

- How short was the shortest concert you've attended? Probably that Beatles concert.

- What is the worse thing to buy at a concert? Drugs, I suppose. I never buy stuff at concerts except for CDs, which answers the next question.

- What is the best thing to buy at a concert? See above.

- Have you ever worn a band shirt to the same band you're seeing live? No. I can't even think of a single band shirt I've even owned.

- How long was the longest drive to a concert you attended? I'm pretty lazy about driving too far for music, so I think it might have been from Provo to Salt Lake City to see Eddie Harris and Les McCann in 1977. Or else from the Nevada Test Site to Las Vegas to see Willie Nelson (1978) or Emmylou Harris (a week later).

- How short was the shortest drive to a concert you attended? I used to walk to concerts in Ann Arbor, so…Leo Kottke or David Bromberg.

- Do you like seats or the pit better? Seats. I don't like to stand.

- What is the most annoying thing at the concert? Drunks. Guys who can't stop with the two-fingered whistle right in my ear. Drunks.

- Indoor or Outdoor concerts? Outdoor.

- Day or Night concerts? Night.

- Small shows or Big shows? Small.

- What is the best season for a concert? Spring.

- Do you frame your ticket stubs? No.

- How many concerts have you been to? Oh, God, I can't estimate. Too many to count.

- How old were you when you went to your first concert? 10, which was that Beatles concert.

[snipped the next 6 stupid questions]

- What concert do you really want to go to?

X Japan's New York concert, which was cancelled because Yoshiki really fucked up his neck whipping it around as he plays. Or Miyavi, if he ever comes farther east than California.

- What concert are you planning to go to?

These two:

Experience Hendrix (October 30): Mitch Mitchell, Billy Cox, Buddy Guy, Hubert Sumlin (Howlin' Wolf), Jonny Lang, Kenny Wayne Shepherd, Eric Johnson, Brad Whitford (Aerosmith), Doyle Bramhall II, Eric Gales, Mato Nanji (Indigenous), Chris Layton (Double Trouble) and special guests at selected locations including Cesar Rojas and David Hidalgo (Los Lobos), Bernard Allison, Robby Krieger (The Doors) and many more.

The Sisters of Mercy (Nov. 20)

- What band have you seen most in concert? I can't think of any artist I've seen more than once. Maybe Jimmy Buffett, but that was an accident. Oh, wait, Al Jarreau, I know I've seen him twice. And Tim O'Brien.
